I am realizing, 14 months later, that this baby weight is not going to come off by itself. Sigh. I've never really had to diet or watch what I eat, so this is somewhat new territory in that I need to focus on these things specifically for weight loss.
I do NOT want to count calories. I do want to focus on making sure I am eating the right ratios of macros though. Can anyone share personal advice or websites that would be helpful in understanding how to figure out how much of each group I should be eating?
If you don't want to count calories, I don't think counting macros will be any different. It's a lot of weighing and measuring.
My BFF has lost almost 40lbs with the Mash Elite program, but she pays them for personalized programming.
Darn. I was kind of hoping I could eat, like, 40% protein, 40% carbs, 20% fat or something like that, and just eyeball it for each meal.
You know I dabble in paleo. Do you have any thoughts on the best approach for weight loss?
IMO, it really depends on what you're doing. Are you still doing CF? When I was still doing the advanced class and wanted to get a bit leaner, I was eating 1g protein per lb body weight and 1g of carbs per lb body weight but eating most of the carbs post workout. Then eating fat to satiety. That was incredibly effective for me.
If you've never tried macros you might get some results eyeballing it.
Hey, are you still doing intermittent fasting? I think it was you that was doing that...
Lol it's pretty....intermittent. I need a group of people to do it with! I need accountability. It's actually pretty easy once you get into it.
Haha. I was thinking about doing it, but I've read conflicting information about whether or not it's good for women. I can't decide if I want to do it.

I tried doing the 2 days a week thing and it was too hard. The actual not eating part wasn't that awful, just hard to plan around and generally annoying.
I've kind of accidentally started doing the 16-8 fasting (where you don't eat for 16 hours at a time, including sleeping) and that is working out better. I work out in the mornings and don't eat before, then I usually don't get around to eating until lunch. It ends up being no food from 8pm until noon the next day. It's much easier mentally and doesn't require as much planning. I do this 3-4 times a week.
I don't do any calorie counting. I try for 110 grams of protein and carbs a day. The carbs come from fruits, veggies, and dairy. I have lost about 100 and still lose with this method.

Yeah, see I think the 16-8 thing would be no big deal for me. Most weekends, I don't end up eating until lunch time anyway because I get busy making breakfast for DS and playing with him until he goes down for a nap. During the week, I eat breakfast at work, but often I get busy and just don't take the time to heat up my meal, so I don't eat until 10 or 11. I can totally do the 16-8 thing.

Lurker, but I really try with to start every meal and snack with a protein/fat. It's so easy to eat carbs, I just try not to focus on them. So I'll have PB or sting cheese, or deli turkey, etc. if I'm having a sandwich, I do open face with one slice of bread and load it with meat and veggies.
And when i do have carbs, I try (not always successfully) to have whole grains or fruit (or wine)
I find it's easier to focus on protein and fat than to count calories or macros.
Counting macros is a lot of work at first but once you get used to it then it's easy. I follow the Renaissance Periodization plan and I have had great results in conjunction with CF and running.

Do you feel like IF has helped with weight loss?
I think it helps. I'm really losing weight because I'm finally medicated for hypothyroidism, but I think IF speeds things up a bit. I also played around with IF before my weddings 5 years ago and it was the same then. It wasn't the reason I lost weight, but it definitely made it easier.
I've been doing low-carb-high-fat for 3 weeks and have lost 10 lbs.
I think there's some similarities there but no counting.
What does your typical day of eating look like? I've been doing it for 3 weeks and lost 6lbs right away and now haven't lost any.
When you do a low carb diet you immediately lose some water weight. But once you lose that initial water weight, you won't lose pounds at the same rate.

When I plateau I find I'm not eating enough fat.
I try to have eggs for breakfast and bacon and eggs on the weekend. And coffee with extra cream.
For lunch I have a salad with meat and cheese and either sour cream and salsa or a creamy dressing. Or I'll get something hot- meat and vegetables. I'll put butter on the veggies.
Dinner - same as lunch. Meat and veggies. With butter.
Snacks are kinda bad. Cashews or whip cream. Neither ideal but it's what I have right now.
