I've been putting off this series forever, since I was not into the idea of a "Western" SK book. However. I am admitting now that I am an idiot. These are amazing!
The Gunslinger - Eh, I'll give it a go, since I've read almost everything else already.
The Drawing of the Three - Fading fast, want to quit.
The Waste Lands - Ooh! This is getting good!
Wizard and Glass - I was peeved about the back story at first, but then got really into it.
Wolves of the Calla - I was so excited to start this, and am barely in but am now obsessed. I can't wait to get home to see what happens.
You're ahead of me - I've read the Waste Lands and own Wizard and Glass, but haven't yet started it. I'm glad to hear you really got into it, as I've heard such good things about the series that I do plan to finish.
I have learned about myself that I have a hard time with long series unless I can develop some connection to the main character(s), and I've had a little trouble with that in this series so far, but I definitely enjoyed The Waste Lands the most so far. It's also a series I could imagine myself re-reading to look for clues after I finally see how it ends.
I just have to jump in and say I resisted them forever, it just didn't seem like something I would enjoy even though I am a SK fan. My hubby loved them and we had the first 2. I finally sat down to read it and basically didn't stop until I finished the whole series. I would name my next son Roland if it wasn't such an awful name (apologies to any rolands out there) you will DEFINITELY want to go back and read them again. I want to but I am afraid to get all sucked iin and be a horrible parent. I am SO glad I read them!
I went onto the SK site, and in that Dark Tower section there is a TON of info. Glossaries for the High Speech, characters referenced from other books, etc. In the front of The Wolves of the Calla there is a list of his books, and they bolded the ones that are Dark Tower related. So much to see!
NandaB - funny enough, one of my uncles is a Roland. His son (my cousin) is too, but they call him Roly (long O). I can NOT picture our Gunslinger being called Roly!
I LOVE the DT series. Wizard and Glass was by far my favorite and I really enjoyed the new one he wrote - The Wind Through the Keyhole. I could read about the ka-tet forever, I just completely fell in love with those characters. I felt like the wheels started coming off the plot around the end of Wolves of the Calla but overall I loved it.

I've only read the first book and, while I wanted to love it, I didn't. It was ok - there were certain parts that I really enjoyed. A lot of the book was just "meh" for me though.
I do want to give the rest of the series a chance though since I've heard such good things about it.
