Does buying Disney Gift cards at Target using your red card to get 5% off really work? As anyone done it super recently, like within the last few weeks? We were planning on using cash instead of credit for our upcoming trip, and I suggested to my H about just using a red card (debit) to get Disney cards at Target. We were planning on at least $500, meaning it would save us $25, but our nearest Target is 30 minutes away, and I don't want to haul my kids all the way there if it doesn't work.
I did it in April to buy 2 epcot tickets. It's another step but it worked fine and I got my 5% off.
ETA: I bought them online and with the redcard it was free shipping, in case you don't want to schlep to the store (of course then you have to deal with the Target website, but at least Disney giftcards are easy to search for!)

If you have a Sams membership they also have discounted that come in $150 intervals- three $50 cards. I think they are around $142? Costco may have too.
I was going to sign up for a red card that day. Can I do it online?
It looks like you can (http://www.target.com/redcard/main), and while I can't remember when I signed up for the red card, honestly I never do anything in person so I'm sure I did it online.
I'd also say that because it's a credit/debit card, I'd imagine you can't get the <added for clarification> REDCARD </> on the spot in the store since they'll have to run a credit check/link to your bank account. Possibly they'll let you start using the benefits before receiving it - although I doubt it. Having said that - I have no experience on that.

They can be bought in store or online, paying via RedCard, to get the 5% off. There's mixed reports of paying with GCs and setting the RedCard as the default payment on DisBoards and still getting the 5% off online; Target's site has been jacked up the past few weeks.
Yes. On BF when they have like a 10 percent off Target GC's deal this is AWESOME.
I buy 1 million dollars ( okay not really but it seems like it) in Target GCs for 10 percent off PLUS another 5 percent off with my Target Card.
THEN I order the Disney Cards ONLINE with my Target GCs and my Target Red Card set as default for another 5 percent off.
It ends up being like 15.5 percent off. I use the GCs to pay my DVC dues and for APs ( on the years I am buying them) .
Oh BTW I have to go to like 8 Targets to get all the GC's I need on BF. Bc there is a limit. That part sucks.
Wow, great idea. I was just going to ask what BF stood for and I got a lightning bolt as I was asking the question.
I didn't realize you could pay with a GC and still get the 5% off. That must only be online. When I've used CG in store plus my red card to pay the balance, I think I only get 5% off the portion I paid with my red card.
yup- i've been doing it for a few months, as recently as last week. AND i take it one step farther.... I buy disounted Target gift cards from cardpool.com THEN using those to buy discounted Disney GCs with my target redcard discount.... (when you buy the disney Gc on target online, it give you the redcard discount even if you pay with a target gc.... sounds like a lot of steps, but once you do it once its easy.... and its worth saving almost 10% :-)
I would not drive an hour RT to save $25. Don't buy one pair of Mickey ears and you will have saved $25.
I agree. Its it if you're going to Target anyway, or if you purchase online, but if your only reason for the 1 hr round trip is to get the cards then it doesn't seem worth it. Our last two trips we paid for entirely with Disney GCs purchased with a redcard, but I live 5 minutes away from target and order some online. We saved about $150 each trip which equated to one night of our hotel stay. I didn't know about the black Friday deal. I'm going to have to try that this year.
If you do it online, make sure you also do ebates b/c that's another 2-3% that you get back.
eBates doesn't give cash back for gift cards. Up until last week it was hit/miss for GC+add on item, but now it's only for the add on item.
Should have clarified. I got the Target gift cards on Black Friday last year, and then bought the Disney gift cards with those cards and got ebates back on that purchase of the Disney gift cards.

You can use both the credit or debit card the same day you apply and get it. They give you a receipt with a barcode that you use as your card until your regular one comes in the mail.
