I hated it. I got it for insomnia as well and it did not work. It made things far worse...it gave me intrusive thoughts. I know it is also given for psychological reasons but I was a cancer patient so it couldn't even be said that I was having those anyway!
Looks like I am in the minority, but it worked for me...It didn't totally knock me out and give me that super groggy feeling, but it did help me fall asleep faster/easier.
My husband was given trazadone and Ativan after a brain injury to sleep (his circadian rhythms were backwards) and it kept him up allllll night talking lol.
Not helpful but it was quite the night.
I would definitely call the doc and let your concerns be known.

I have taken it for 5 years, and it works for me. I don't necessarily sleep all night (but I never did). It helps me fall asleep more quickly so I probably average about 2 more hours a night of sleep than I would without it.

I take it as well. I find eating a small snack when I take it helps it kick in quicker. Maybe you need a larger dose if you're still waking. I had the same issue and my doc said to take 1-2.
What dose were you prescribed? I take 50 mg a night and it does work for me. I take it about an hour before I go to bed. It does not knock me out at all (like I could still stay awake if I wanted) but it does help me doze off and stay asleep for awhile.
Tradazone made me so hazy throughout the day that it seemed pointless. I was in the throes of extreme insomnia and I think I did sleep, but the consequence of feeling so groggy and out of it throughout the day cancelled out the sleeping.
I love it. I take 25mg and it doesn't knock me out. I still have to "make" myself go to sleep, but once I'm out I stay asleep much better and STTN. I too need to take it at least an hour before I want to fall asleep. I would actually try taking half a pill and see how that works for you.
It helped me stay asleep longer, but did nothing for my actual falling asleep. If I was not naturally sleepy to begin with, then I was just really high for several hours.
I've used it for a few years. I found when I wasn't on the right dosage I wasn't able to sleep well. I'm now on 100mg instead of 50mg (usually the starting dose), and it makes world of difference to my sleep. I hope you're able to sort it out. Not being able to sleep is the worst.
Trazadone did help me fall asleep faster, but I didn't stay asleep. Once I woke up, it was hell trying to get back to sleep at all. It also did leave me feeling groggy in the mornings.
The med I'm taking now is Silenor (it's a generic of....something) and it seems to be helping. I just started it last week. I try to take one about an hour before wanting to go to sleep and then another right before going to bed. So far, it seems to help some. I'm hoping it gets better with time. I don't have the grogginess when waking up so that's a plus.

I take it and Neurontin for insomnia. One to fall asleep and one to stay asleep. They work about 90% of the time. The other 10% of the time the insomnia wins.
I have been taking it for almost two years as needed. It does make you groggy but for me it did help me sleep. I will get 5-7 hours depending on the dose but once it wears off, you are wide awake. You do feel a little sluggish for a few minutes after waking up.

I've been taking 50 mg every night for about 5-6 years. It has worked well for me. I was prescribed it in a time of high anxiety to help me fall asleep and stay asleep. It has really helped regulate my sleep over the years. It's been great!
It made me miserable. I didn't take it for long. I wasn't sleeping much, and when I did sleep it didn't feel restful. I hope you can find something better. I had to go through quite a few before I found something that works for me.
I take it about a dozen times a year to help me sleep during times of super high anxiety. It works for me but I'm also very susceptible to being drowsy with drugs.
