I live in the burbs, I could offer to ship you soon, although I am not entirely sure what they are, but that would be creepy
You need to get one!!! Then describe it to me...in great detail.
It's a bit like a jelly donut. Usually made before lent to get rid of all the junk you're not supposed to eat.
+ It is all H then. I will have him get one, he can describe it to me, and i will describe it to you. I am the pickiest eater on the planet, and jelly is a no go. He would eat that shit up though haha

Once in a while they have them at the Kroger by me. My mom works in their deli and bakery...I can see when they are getting some in next time and send them to you? Probably aren't as good as "homemade", but these are pretty tasty.
ooooh! do you know the name of the bread? I might wanna contribute something to Thanksgiving dinner this year. Maybe. We usually have pierogi, golabki, and kolache

My polish BIL makes them every year for Fat Tuesday. If he does the same next year, I'll hook you up. It's the only time of year I ever see them made and it's like a paczki-plosion.
My favorite bakery usually fills up a month ahead of time.
HOW DO I NOT KNOW ABOUT THESE? I'm Polish, grew up eating plenty of Polish food at my Grandparents (and at restaurants in Chicago when we went to visit family), and have never had this! I googled and it looks delicous. Now I need to plan a trip to Chicago.

Mine doesn't support my love of all things jelly-filled and i haven't even had a doughnut in over a year. I'm so neglected

It's pretty much babka. You can google polish sweet bread to find recipes. I'll see if my mom will give up hers and message it to you.

When I still lived in Toledo they made a HUGE deal about them every year

That would be so awesome. I could make them for Thanksgiving and I'm sure my dad and all of his siblings will love having it!
I live next door to a Polish bakery and deli. I bought packzi from them last year on Mardi Gras but I'm not sure if they sell them year round. I will check.
ETA: Growing up in Michigan, paczki were a BIG DEAL. They were in every single grocery store on Mardi Gras and were even brought in to all the local schools.
I live in the "Polish Triangle" in Boston and they have them EVERY DAY. They are best when they're warm and fresh-and I hate jelly doughnuts but there is something about these...too bad I can't have them anymore. The deli down the street also makes their own kielbasa-delicious! They have a ton of Polish groceries as well-sometimes I buy things but I have to guess from the picture what exactly I'm buying (I could ask the owner who is super nice but I like the fun of guessing!).
I seriously think we live a few blocks from each other. Too funny! If you ever see a tall girl walking a huge fluffy white dog in the 'hood, that's me :-)
