Back from vacation, and while it's good to be home, I just really enjoyed going back overseas and had such an awesome time. Hit up 3 cities/2 countries in Europe and got to attend my first major soccer tournament game to see Croatia vs. Spain. It was pretty electric and an exciting game to go to!
I'm still going through all the photos we took and was going to post some later in the week, for those that may want to see some of our adventures.
I do have a vent that I have already ranted on before, but I can't really bitch about it anywhere else, so I'm getting out here (feel free to just stop reading, lol). We took a red-eye flight out to leave, which CLEARLY states on the tickets that it's an overnight flight, like with cabin lights off and such. Yet again (for the second time on a red-eye), we get stuck in the seats directly in front of the ONLY crying/wailing kid on the huge flight of hundreds of seats. The kid wasn't even a baby, but like 4-5 years old. Every single hour this kid screamed so loudly, and a few times when the mom tried to calm him down, he violently kicked the back of my seat. I tried giving the stink-eye to the mom, and loudly said to the H, "Earplugs are no match for THIS noise". Like seriously, the minute we drifted off to sleep, the kid started up again.
And then OF COURSE when the plane lands and is taxi'ing around the Paris airport, the kid is finally zonked out. The mom kind of half-apologized and said her kids have been on 60 flights. But, it didn't show at all, unless that was "normal" behaviour for them.
So, I said it before & will say it again - if they would offer guaranteed child-free flights (especially red-eye flights!) at a premium price, I would gladly accept the fee and take those options every single time. The H was so frustrated, too, but I just told him, "Could be worse, it could be OUR crying kid. But it's not, and thank GOD for that!"
Other than that, the food was so amazing, the hotels we stayed at were in great locations, the weather was about as good as could be, and we got to see so many cool things.
So, how are all of you? Any vents/frustrations for this week (so I am not the only complainer)? Hope everyone is having a good week so far.

That's miserable! I'm so sorry you had the misfortune to be on the flight with that kid let alone right next to it! And I'm all for child-free flights!
I'm glad you enjoyed the rest of it!
My vent...I just had a load of work dumped in my lap...like I've got nothing else important to do. I cannot wait until I can hire somebody to fill my vacancy! Three months of doing 2.5 jobs is starting to wear on me!

Ugh, I'm sorry about the extra work. I hope you can get some recognition AND be able to hire the help you need really soon!
The H and I were joking after the fact that kids must "smell fear" around us, like animals or dogs, and act out because they just KNOW we don't have the patience to listen to that crap. Which might be true, but it still doesn't make it easier to take when that stuff happens. I just started motioning a little "snip-snip" finger gesture when H gives me that look of annoyance about kids, as a reminder that HE can do something to make sure that WE are never parents to a child like that.
Your trip sounds awesome! I'm sorry about the flight-- I have an idea: a "vacationer's flight." It leaves at a time that you gets you to your destination in the morning, so that there is time to do fun things that day (I hate arriving in the evening). It is adults only. There is plentiful booze on board. I would seriously pay $300 extra for that.
In solidarity-- my coworker across the hall has her 2 year old in the office today. My boss's dog barks like crazy every time the kid cries, which is about 245345 times an hour. *sigh*
glw and I thought it was annoying when I can hear my coworkers' kids on a video conference!
OrangePixyStix besides the flight, I'm glad you had a good vacation!
We are all moved in and almost unpacked. Only a few boxes left. I am back at work after more than a week off and dragged ass the whole day. Everything went smoothly with the exception of my MIL, who seemed to think, that now we are closer to them, she can drop by whenever. That didn't end up going well for her since I have a backbone, which her children all seem to lack. I won that battle and now all is right again in my world.

OrangePixyStix, so had you had a great trip; can't wait to see more pictures!!
latte, good for you! My dad's family never lived close, but they are "drop in" people. My mother is decidedly anti-unannounced visits, so we never had any. Like, I love Seinfeld, but if my friends were just randomly ringing my buzzer after work, I would freak out. hahaha
milsaroo, I'm sure you have a sense of whether it's voluntary or "voluntary", but if you have an option not to do it I wouldn't. You won't be fairly compensated. (And I'm pretty sure you have a good reason not to work more! )
OrangePixyStix - Please post some pics on here once you have time. I would love to see them! I'm sorry about the well behaved kid. That really does seem too old for that behavior. I'm with you though...just be glad he's not yours!
