Can anyone give me an estimate on how much a 2 BR Villa at a DVC in WDW would be?
We will most likely go in Feb 2018 (I know a looong way away). My kids get a mid-winter break the week of President's Day. I know President's Day itself is really busy but it looks like the crowds get a lot more manageable as the week goes on. My tentative plan (in my head LOL) is to arrive on Monday and have our first park day on Tuesday.
I mentioned to my dad that he and his wife are welcome to come to WDW when we do - we live in different states so this would replace a trip for them to visit us or for us to visit them that year.
There will be a total of 7 of us - Me, DH, dad, step mom and 3 kids (age 10, 4.5 and 4.5). I just checked the chart from touring plans with DVC capacity and I think our only option would be a 2 bedroom villa. I was originally thinking that my family would stay at an AoA suite and my dad and his wife could get a room at Pop or a Little Mermaid room at AoA. I want to get an idea of how the price would compare for us to split cost on a DVC.
By renting points from a dvc member? Or paying cash through Disney?
Which resort?
Probably renting points since it seems like that is less expensive.
Probably the least expensive? My dad is usually pretty cheap when it comes to travel.
OKW is the cheapest next to AKL Value ( which are VERY hard to get. ) I think it will be about 2500 for 6 nights in a 2 bedroom at OKW through David's for that week.
The 2 bedrooms at OKW are FREAKING HUGE ( like 1100 square feet) Olivia's is a nice restaurant. IF you can get the booking category of " close to Hospitality House" it is nice, if not try requesting Turtle Creek.
We did the AoA/ Pop split last year with extended family and it worked great.
If you really want to stay together I would consider off site. We get a 3-4 bedroom condo for $150-200 a night. You do have to pay for parking and rent a car if neither of you is driving. We have family who drive and APs so parking is free, so it works out well. YMMV.
I was going to suggest off site too, especially if doing a car rental. We did a presidential suite at WBC that was huge and nicely furnished/equipped. Technically on Disney property.
Parking is such a pain though, especially at MK. While the bus system isn't always ideal, it is much easier than parking, taking a tram, then taking ferry or monorail.

For the MK, the busses win every time! Unless you're on a monorail resort of course. SaveSave

Yeah, I would really like to stay on site with transportation. My dad will probably drive, so he'd have a car but I don't know if all 7 of us would fit. I was just looking at rates for the third week in Feb for 2017 compared to other times of the year and apparently it is one of the most expensive weeks to go. The average nightly for an AoA suite is $405 a night and the average for a Little Mermaid room is $186 a night. Pop is a little less expensive, around $160 a night. These are 2017 rates. I'm sure they will go up in 2018.
ETA: Just looked at prices various times of the year and I guess President's Day isn't exactly high season. I compared it to January which is apparently the cheapest time to go.

Most DVC rentals are cheapest in early September.
I do not want to go in September. Last time we went in August and I want at least a 3 month buffer from that heat! But, I appreciate you pointing that out. The problem with going on a trip with extended family is different opinions about what is reasonable and what isn't. Dad and wife might just end up staying at a Comfort Inn and meeting us at the park. As long as they are ok with that, so am I. I am now more heavily considering POR Riverside since it sleeps 5 and is $150/night less than AoA suite. Plus, if they do happen to have a room discount at that time, the % off is higher for moderates than values, so it would be even less expensive in the long run. I have another year to decide this but I don't want to make a quick decision without doing my research.

I like POR it's a very nice resort. SOMETIMES they don't have available discounts.
You're probably looking at Princess Half weekend. I'd avoid that unless you're a runner. It's freaking busy. Going the week after the race is much better.

I just looked up the dates. The Princess half events start on Thurs 2/23 - following President's Day which is Monday 2/20. Do you know if it is always scheduled for the weekend after President's Day? I'm not looking to go until 2018 but wanted to get an idea of how prices were at that time of year. I remember looking at some fan website (maybe Disney Dad) who said that President's Day itself is crowded, but as the week goes on it gets a lot less crowded.
ETA: I just looked at the 2016 date and sure enough, it started the Thursday after President's Day. I think the crowd calendars need to be updated. The one I looked at show the end of the week in Blue. Hmm. Maybe I need to rethink this all together. My kids have that week off of school. I will have a 5th grader at the time. I don't mind taking a couple extra days, but at that age I don't want to take a whole week off school.
