I'm trying to get enough gift cards to pay for all possible out of pocket expenses. Aside from housekeeping, what do I need cash for? Can I charge purchases like towel rentals at the water parks?

I think if you want to buy a balloon directly from the person selling them you need cash. However I believe you can go to a nearby kiosk and use your band and get a receipt and then get the balloon.
I may be remembering that wrong so someone feel free to correct me.
So you can buy gift cards and have those funds available on your Magic Bands? Cool. Do you do that on MDE?
unless things have changed since I was there last (which is quite possible) you can't load gift cards to your account. Instead you use the magic band to charge everything to your account and pay off the balance with gift cards.

Got it. I didn't realize that was possible either.

I just realized I wasn't very clear in my post. By "your account", I mean if you're staying on property and charging things to your room. We've done this on our past two trips and makes everything much easier.

No. You charge using your magic band to the credit card on file for the room. Then you take your gift cards to the desk at the hotel and have them apply the gift charge to your room balance before it posts to your credit card (evening before check out, or resort maximum charge).
I would have a back up credit card (and ID) on you at all times. Sometimes the Magic Bands don't work and you have to go to Guest Relations at your resort to reset it. It's probably rare, but it happened to me. That was only for my CC though. I just used the Gift Cards in person.
We did what a lot of others said....Last year we took a couple Disney GCs that I got at a discount. We would charge things to our magic bands during the day. Then at night when we were back at the hotel we would walk down to the front desk and pay down that day's charges with the GC. You don't have to go down every night, but we did just to keep tabs on it lol You just have to remember to do it bf you check out or else the charges will automatically go onto your credit card.
Stupid question. Where are you getting said discounted Disney cards?
I buy discounted Target cards and then use my red card to save 5% more off of the Disney cards.
This is what I do too. Cardpool.com for discounted target gift cards (about 5% off) Then I use those to buy Disney gift cards with my red card discount to save another 5%... So total of 10% off. It adds up!! :-)

Can you explain this to me? I have used Target gift cards to pay for Disney gift cards but then I didn't get the 5% red card discount. I asked and was told it was bc I used the gift cards and not my red card to pay!

You have to do it online. When you buy the Disney GC from target online, you have to have your red card set as your default payment on the target site. That will give you the 5% off... But it still lets you use the target GC to pay. :-)

Well darn! I feel like I missed out lol. So are the Disney cards mailed to you or is it sent online?

Bummer! Now you know for Next trip!!! Lol The Disney GC are mailed to you in the mail. You order them in $50 or $100.... Then you can go to disneygiftcard.com and combine all those smaller ones into bigger denominations.... So like I bought 10 $100 cards then combined them into one $1000 card to use to make a payment on my trip.
