My ob cautioned that condoms are only like 80% effective at preventing pregnancy. Yikes. I don't remember if that was with perfect use or not. But still.

I was late, by a few days. I was like ohhhh fuuuuuuck. It was odd though because we had gone back and forth about #4 for a while and my DH had just, maybe a week earlier, said I think I want 4. In like 1- 1.5 years. Soooo she was a little early....

Happened to a close friend of mine. Tested when her period was late, since there hadn't been any condom breakage or any other reason to think it had failed.
Not about condoms, but I always smugly thought that people who got pregnant while on the pill (regular, not mini) were just terrible at taking it properly and either didn't realise or lied about it being perfect use. Then my friend, who's an OB surgeon, got pregnant while properly taking the pill. She was like "well, I guess this is proof it can happen!" I stopped feeling so smug about my pill use after that.

We have been using condoms for 2 years without any pregnancies. We used them between my 6 year old and my 2 year old without any issues also. I am on no birth control and had no issues getting pregnant.
I have no idea if this is true, but I remember being told that if you start to put a condom on the wrong way then flip it over to roll it on correctly, sperm can get on it and that's the part that's touching your vag so it could knock you up. It's like being told precum can get you pregnant.
I'm crisis though. Other than the situation I described above and a condom breaking or coming off, how else can sperm get through?

Totally true if he has any presemen hanging around. When DH accidentally starts putting it on wrong there is a big "Fuck!" and then he throws it out. We are done with kids.
H and I have used condoms exclusively for many years off and on with no (known) pregnancies. I guess I could have had a chemical pregnancy that I didn't know about.
We aren't particularly careful. Typically there's a lot of P in V action before the condom gets out on.
This is us. The condom only gets put on at the end. We've been lucky so far. I stopped taking the pill in 2011 and only 2 (mostly) planned pregnancies. None resulting from our irresponsible condom use.
This thread is scaring me. I don't want to shove an IUD in my uterus
Don't worry! You can get pg on an IUD, as well! I have a friend who had to have her perfectly-inserted IUD removed when it was discovered she was 18w, 6d pregnant! Her youngest will be 15 mo apart.

Oral during foreplay could also result in precum getting where it shouldn't.
Also, it's not really like you have a 3% chance of getting pregnant every time you use a condom. Really, it's more like 3 in 100 condoms you use will be faulty, but you have to have the bad luck of using those bad ones during your fertile window to get an oops. And then you have to be on the wrong side of the only 25% chance of getting pregnant even when you have perfectly timed unprotected sex.
Sort of related post jack - a friend was telling me this morning that one of her neighbors had 3 under 3. Got an IUD. Went to Mexico with her H. Came back pregnant. Took her a while to figure it out. Because.....IUD.
So they are about to have 4 under 4. Her H went to get fixed. She was all "It's too late now!!!"
