My husband calls Menards the wal-mart of home improvement stores while Home Depot and lowes are the targets. But they sometimes have really random good deals in their ads and are the closest home improvement store to us so we definitely use them.
Menards is one of the closest stores to my house. I'm probably there at least twice a month, mainly because it's easy to run over there to grab whatever random thing we need. Yes, DS loves going there, too. He went through a phase where he'd call out all of the "fags" he'd see and that was a little awkward. Fags, of course, meant flag in his toddler speech, but woukd receive some curious looks from the various shoppers within ear shot.
We have it here. I would 100% go to Home Depot before going there. But I would go to Menards before I went to Fleet Farm (not sure if that's just local to me).
We have Menards. I go typically quite a few times a month. I grew up going there with my parents. It's sometimes cheaper but I think HD and Lowe's have more modern items. We make it a big joke about spending all weekend there with the kids. They tolerate going.

We have three towns all an hour away that we go to. One has HD and a fantastic cafe but shitty target. The other has an awesome target but only menards and FF. The third has all three but a crappy target and not great food choices. FF is really only good for cheap, real maple syrup. Lol
Menards and Fleet Farm are the only home improvement places in town. I'd rather go to Menards than Fleet Farm but end up at FF more often. I actually went to Menards for the first time in 6+ months yesterday.
I just went to the one by my house for the first time. Not a fan. Too disorganized and too much random crap. Most of the stuff we looked at seemed like low end, off brand crap. I told DH that never need to go back. I have a renewed respect for HD and Lowes now
Yes, we have a menards by us and it is definitely cheaper than HD or Lowes...for wood and other things like electrical supplies the prices are better. He works with a good sales rep there so he really likes it.
ETA: I am not crazy about their design items like lights, fans, etc.
we are getting one here soon, it is being built this summer. I'm not really interested. Home Depot is closest and we shop there enough we know where everything is. We boycott Lowes due to this bullshit they pulled www.cnn.com/2011/12/11/showbiz/all-american-muslim-lowes/
We do but only because we are limited with options.
I hate menards. They're awful. Horrible business practices and a douchebag founder.
We don't have a menards here, but the Home Depot founder is a huge Trump supporter, and Lowes pulled their ads from that show about a Muslim family, and didn't pull out after the Duggar thing, so there are really no good options in my eyes.

I guess this explains all the commercials. You think they would say coming soon or something.
The style of the commercial alone gave me the impression I wouldn't want to shop there.
cjeanette I think there are a couple that may be open already? I feel like there is one up north and one down along 49 highway. The one by me is the first one in JoCo though.

We have them out here. We go to it about the same amount as Lowes. HD is on the other side of the metro area, so rarely go. Got dds playground set at Menards.

We recently got one here. I'm not a fan. I go there once a month to get treats for Arrow that I can't find anywhere else. The store is so full of random crap. I don't want to have to walk through clothing, food, etc to get to their home improvement stuff. I also hate that you have to enter one part of the building and exit another. I don't mind the walking, but in the rain it's a pain.

This is a good description. I hated going to Menards when I lived in the Midwest.

My son loves it. He likes to stand in the display shower stalls they have. The ones at Home Depot somehow do not have the same allure for him. He also pronounces it Bernards, so it's amusing to hear him sing the jingle "Save Big Money at Bernards!".
My H hates how disorganized it is and we can never find anything we need. Menard's was closer to us but he'd always drive across town to Home Depot instead.
I don't love it but for a while they had La Croix for substantially less than any of the grocery stores around us, so we'd trek through Menards once a month just to stock up on that. Just a little bit silly :-P
I find their prices and service way better than Home Depot. We don't have a Lowes by us so we rarely go to those. If I had to choose between Home Depot and Menards it would be Menards. They are just way more helpful and have a wider array of items. When we were looking for outdoor furniture their selection was the biggest. When we were looking for a new ceiling fan their selection was the biggest. That seems to happen for so many things!
When we lived in Indiana, there was one. MH and his parents were obsessed with that place. I hate it. It's so janky. My son loved going there though and MH is always hoping one opens up in TN.
They always have the most random assortment of legit crap.
Hate it and we spend a lot of time in home improvement stores. Hate the rebate BS, hate the low end product line I usually see, hate the hassle they give for returns...pretty much everything
