My H tricked me into walking around the mall. Apparently, that's a hot spot. We live on a military base and there's a pokegym right at the museum at the front gate. The MPs have been cracking down on people gathering there.
I think the idea of this game is neat, and I like that it gets people outside and meeting other people (I personally am not really into games at all, but I still think it's cool). Just still be aware of your surroundings--the above story is about a group of thieves who were using the game to find and lure victims playing the game into more secluded places to rob them. Obviously, a huge rarity, but still. I think it's a good thing to remind kids about who are wandering around playing the game. Just be aware of your surroundings like you always are.
I'm honestly irritated with people focusing on the negatives of this.
A) it's a GAME
B) it will get kids (and adults!) off their asses to play
It's not the game's fault that some kid found a body. It probably would have been found sooner if more kids actually played outside.
And as far as people/kids walking in traffic- well, don't be so fucking dumb. Look where you're going and teach your kids to look where they're going. You can't prevent stupid (and yes, I know we love to try)
Have to agree with you here. I live in NYC. I spend all day avoiding walking into people who are too engrossed in their phones to watch where they are working. I doubt Pokemon is going to make it worse.
Ok, how does this work? I click on them and it shows little foot prints, but not a direction or anything?
It shows the direction for me. You just walk the direction the little footprints are facing. If you click the Pokemoni should come up individually and you can use the compass.
At this point, I feel like I should mention that I've only caught Pokemon in my own home and have not ventured outside for this yet. lol
All my footprints face the same way. They don't change when I turn either?
I read a thing online about gameplay. The footprints tell you how close you are. Zero footprints means spin in a circle and a Pokemon will jump on your back. 3 footprints means walk all the fuck over creation and you MAY find that one.
And the footprints change on number the further and closer you get. So if you click on one with 2 footprints and start walking it'll either add a footprint or subtract a footprint. If it disappears, you've gone too far.
I've already caught 2 in my living room, one in my bedroom and one in my kitchen. I'm cool just turning it on at random times to see if any have wandered into the house. Lol

I just went for a run/walk through the park near my house since there are 4 pokestops in a loop. I saw 2 guys looking at 1 with their phone out so I assumed they were also playing. This is the perfect game to get me back into running lol. Plus I made some good progress on egg hatching.

My coworker just came in here and told me to download it. Apparently you can pay money to lure the good Pokemon to certain places, so we are luring them to our upcoming job fair, so people will come for the Pokemon and stay for an interview. I feel old.
I accidentally clicked Team Blue and don't know why!!
I've gotten like 40 pokemons sitting at my desk today. And there's a pokestop within range of my desk. It's awesome. DH and I are going to walk the neighborhood tonight for more.
Keeps losing my GPS signal though. That's a bummer.
Maybe I don't know what I'm talking about re: the footprints. I just make sure the red part of the compass is pointing up and walk that way. Maybe that's wrong too... I just caught a goldeen in my living room though, so I'm doing something right.

My towns police station just tweeted saying to tweet them if you're out playing this game tonight. I went to download it on my phone and found it in my cloud. DS put it on his iPad so when I excitedly told him that I put it on my phone he told me he's already been playing it.

There are a couple of Pokemon in our yard. We had half a dozen cars stop in front of our house and take their phones out. And all of the neighborhood kids were running by too.
I joined the red team because idk wtf I was doing, and then realized my neighborhood is dominated by blue. dammit.
but there's a red gym right by my office! and I always said I wanted to be one of those people who goes to the gym after work.
I didn't realize the gyms were based on teams. Which team is better or doesn't it matter? I think I only saw blue ones near me, but I can't say for sure as I didn't realize they were different colors so I wasn't really paying attention to that.
Let me just add that I've never watched Pokémon. My 9yo DD briefly collected the cards, but I know nothing about it. The game has been fun so far; I guess I just need to learn more about the Pokémon themselves?

so, the gyms are sprinkled around as you know. if the gym is the same color as your team, you can train your pokemon at that gym. if the gym is held by a different team, you can challenge that team and fight your pokemon to take over that gym for your team.
so I kind of screwed myself by choosing red, because all of the gyms by my house are blue. I could challenge them and turn the gyms red if I win, but it would be hard to win because I can't train my pokemon at any of the gyms near me right now. meanwhile the blue team members' pokemon near me are getting stronger because they do have access to the gym. make sense?

So, if you signed up with your google account, the app has full access to said google account.
I just revoked the permissions , and it's my fault for not reading the tos, but wanted to give everyone else a heads up. We may create a trainer account, but right now I'm holding off on letting my kids play.

This is very helpful, thank you. How do you know what color your team is?

You choose a team once you hit level 5. I haven't really gotten the hang of using the gyms. The ones by me are dominated by really powerful people (1000+ CP) because I'm close to a college where students have lots of free time to run around collecting Pokemon, lol.
