I want to get an area rug for our new living room. I think a 2x3 would be okay, but I'm going to measure the room to make sure it won't look miniscule. Ideally, I'd like to spend under $50 since it doesn't need to be a rug that I'll have forever. I just want something cute to brighten up the room a bit, since we decided not to paint. I'm looking on overstock.com but nervous about buying online!!

Do you have a sofa in your LR? 2x3 is wayyyy too small, unless you have like 1 armchair only... Definitely measure your room, but 5x8 is small for a LR area rug (our tiny room takes an 8x10)
I love UO rugs, I've also had good luck with Overstock, Ikea and Target. I keep our rugs on the cheap side though, because one of our (rescue) dogs is a total asshole and ruins them all after a while.

rugsusa has some great sales. Wait for a sale and checkout their clearance section. Sales are normally around holidays (but even things like Mother's Day is considered a holiday there!).
Are you in the US? Sizes are in feet not meters. 2x3" is way too small.
I bought all of mine from overstock and find that 8x10 is the minimum size you need to really make an impact in a room and ground the furniture. I HATE when the area rug is only under the coffee table.
