chilerellanos, probably, but what you get is so unpredictable.
I have a wimpy Pikachu, but have lost 2-3 much better ones. He's slippery!
I went to probably 20 pokestops of my way home, and got 2 potions. That's so ridiculous.
It's interesting to see the differences in locations. I get nothing BUT POTIONS! I just dumped 50 revives and 20 regular potions because my bag was almost full! Yet I'm constantly running out of balls. I just bought 40 balls today after the pikachu disaster.
How do you get lucky eggs? And more incubators? Can you get them without spending money?
Here's a list of what stuff you get at different trainer levels. Yes, you get lucky eggs and incubators for leveling up. You can also RARELY get an incubator from a Pokestop. I just buy them.

That used to be my issue. But now that I'm battling more and need more potions, I can't get them.
Yeah I figured. I don't battle much, but I do catch a lot.
My top lineup. I powered up Vaporeon a bit (from 822) today.
And just some of my fav. Mostly the cute ones, nothing to do with CP!
I think I'm going to try to battle for the first time tomorrow. I'm going to a place I assume has a gym for lunch (can this be verified ahead of time?) and I have no idea what I'm doing.
Good luck at the gym kategm! I don't think a gym's location can be verified ahead of time. I've read that you can download Ingress, the game whose platform on which Pokemon Go is based. And figure out where pokestops and gyms are that way.
swizz that diagram explains why I get good egg distances walking downtown (straight lines), but not walking around the ginormous grocery store (loops inside a building).

Are there some pokemon that just aren't catchable without a great ball? I just saw a Nidoqueen with an unknown CP and I wasted a million balls and she escaped each time. I eventually just gave up.

The "" as the CP means the Pokemon is so strong it doesn't recognize you as a trainer, and is highly likely to break out of balls or escape. So I don't think there's anything you could have done (if you don't have great balls or razz berries), it was just a very strong Nidoqueen. If you're faced with the same situation again, I would try hard for a ball bonus (good, great, excellent, or curveball). A ball bonus increases the chance of capture.
ETA: my beloved Clefable had CP. I used several razz berries and great balls on her, I was so freaked out that she'd run away. But I got her! 1020 CP!
The gym a block from my house was totally vacant this morning! Someone must have battled it in the middle of the night and then just.. not put one of their pokemon there? Who does that?! I stopped by and dropped off my new Nidoqueen. I was able to train the gym at my bus stop up a level and then put one of my Vaporeon there. Hopefully they stick it out for the next 6 hours so I can collect my prize.

Yeah, that is kind of what I figured. She broke out of the ball SO many times. I did get some ball bonuses a few times, but still she escaped. I am only level 7. Oh well!

I've definitely had some break out for no good reason -- they usually run off before I'd give up though.
Yeah I went through like 25 balls. EACH ball caught her but then she broke out each time and I was like WHATEVER and gave up lol.
So I'm not far off -- making sure there aren't like 300 something ones out there I'm missing!
What is IV?
It's a metric the Silph Road researchers made/discovered that determines the quality of an individual Pokemon, i.e., is this PARTICULAR Magikarp better or worse (attack, defense, and stamina) than all the other Magikarps I've found. You can put in your pokemon's stats here to get the IV (choose "IV Rater" at the top).
That being said, IVs aren't really that important. A Pokemon with a perfect IV will be roughly 10% stronger than one with the same CP but a crappier IV rate. It's just a more technical way than just CP for trainers to decide which Pokemon to evolve, or which Pokemon to expend stardust and candies on. For trainers with too much time on their hands and too large an amount of caught Pokemon to choose from
Personally, I think move set is more important. I'd rather have the best moves that deal the most damage, than a high CP or perfect IV.
Ok, so no PokeGym for me today. There was one where I was, but it was on the opposite side of the building and I could never actually get close enough to it to participate. (the GPS on my phone sucks so it doesn't actually know where I am half of the time)
BUT I finally got enough Caterpie candies to evolve my Metapod! I was one candy away so I traded my last Caterpie in. I'll pick one up soon enough, right? And even if I don't, he's not really necessary to my collection. But hello pretty Butterfree!
Also - minor vent: my phone can't pick up the GPS when I'm in the car. So all the times I'm slowly winding my way through the apt complex, my eggs aren't any closer to hatching.
I'm pretty sure my work is sitting on top of a Pikachu nest... So now I'm bound and determined to get a Raichu. It's otherwise a total pokedesert so at least there's Pika. It's not good for my work productivity, though!
I am so close to level 9, which apparently gives you a lucky egg. I've been saving up stuff for when I get it. I have enough to evolve 8 pidgeys, 3 ratatas, 1 caterpie, and 3 weedles! I haven't evolved or powered up anything yet, so should be fun I'll have a little time at the Denver airport tonight, so I'm hoping to do it there and find some pokestops while I'm at it.

I think that's a great strategy, good work! If you're going to be stationary at the airport for awhile, I would put a lure on a pokestop, use the lucky egg, and catch & evolve at the same time. You'll get 200XP for catching ones you already have, 1000XP for each evolution, and 2000XP for any new-to-you Pokemon that come to the lure. I think you can blow through at least 2 levels with the evolutions you've smartly stored up, plus catching new Pokemon. Well worth the price of a lure!

Ugh I'm sorry about the gym! I wish you didn't have to be RIGHT ON TOP OF the gym or pokestop to use it. Depending on where my GPS pings, my favorite gym is either inside the nice coffee shop (obvs where I prefer it to be), or at least a hundred feet down the street
Someone put a lure at security, and then again near my gate. I just hung out by that one. I evolved all my crap and caught some random stuff and now I'm level 11! I feel wiped out after the past half hour, lol.
Nice job evolving kategm! I know right, Gloom is so fucking nasty. What is that hanging out it's mouth, drool? Blech. I wish you could just skip over Gloom and get to Vileplume, who's quite a strong grass/poison type.
Wow Brie that's an amazing Vaporeon! Do you remember what the CP of the Eevee was you evolved him into? I used a 412 Eevee to make my Flareon, and he didn't evolve over 1000 CP. I haven't seen an Eevee above 400 since.
