I'm not sure what happens now. The Pokemon is there and it shows a little red circle when I look at it.
I think he's there defending it if someone wants to battle. I don't know if you have to actively participate though? He'll probably get kicked out shortly, lol (what I've read online says most gyms are near impossible to maintain for any length of time).
Lol! I'm sure he won't be there long. His cp is 640 and I'm seeing gyms with 1200-1400 Pokemon, but we'll see! I'll report back if I get anything from him being there.
So if you take your Pokemon to a friendly gym and "battle" to train, what happens if/when you lose the battle? You don't lose your Pokemon right?
How do I know if there in an empty spot at a gym?
You have to use your potions to get his hit points back up, and if you lose at a hostile gym you need to revive with a potion as well as use them to get the hit points back up.
I got a spot by beating a guy, because the gym leveled up. Then on the left side a screen there was a button to hit to leave your pokemon.

So you never truly lose your guys, they would just sit in your pocket needing to be revived?

@supergreen, thanks for starting this!
I'm level 6, Team Mystic. But I haven't tried a gym yet. The gym at my work (literally in the middle of our hospital, much to my employer's chagrin) is currently red controlled and has a 1356 dude, so I'm pretty intimidated.
I live in a major urban area so there are tons of Poke Stops, but I don't think it's much easier to catch Pokemon. There are huge areas that seem to have no Pokemon.
I'm level 14 :/ LOL, I like the game. We have next to nothing around us, but there is a very pokestop heavy area about 15 minutes away. I went there Monday and MH and I went on Wednesday night. I've been gyming, I currently have two pokemon in gyms, Team Mystic! H and I held a gym for a bit, but there's a lot of competition here, lol. My two are on my college campus, which is not very busy right now since it's summer. I'm upset I evolved 2 Eevee's and they both evolved into Jolteon. Grr, lol.
The only thing that worries me is that we've used almost 1 GB of data in the first 10 days of our month... We only pay for 2. We might need to increase, but can't really justify the price increase. We shall see.
I'm level 5. We have a bunch of the really low point guys in our house because we're right off of a main route on the east coast. I napped a ton the first day because I went for a walk. But then we were gone all day Wednesday (Bronx Zoo) and have been housebound due to illness, since.
I caught 2 or 3 at the zoo. I was hoping to catch more but it's not a 2 second maneuver. And the kids are too fast. Oh well. LOL.
I was missing Poke Stops the first few days, but now I at least know how to spin those!

Please do! I want to know what happens too.
So, I dropped him off this morning and he just came back with his energy completely depleted, lol. I guess he got beat up.
I didn't get anything, and his cp didn't improve. I read online that you get coins for every 21 hours he stays at the gym.
There was a pokestop at our fav park, so I played a bit while the kids played. A group of teenagers and I took turns putting a lure on the pokestop. I caught a bunch and leveled up, for only 15ish minutes of active playing in a 2 hour period. I caught a Pigeot and a Goldbat! I want more Eevee's so I can evolve one, but 50 Eevee candy is soooo much, bah.
I almost caught a Hypno the other day, but in ran away!
I don't really have any idea what I'm doing, I feel like I mostly catch really basic pokemon. Because I live in a city full of nerds, battling at the gym is too hard until you have really godlike critters.

I caught a Hypno! It's my highest level Pokemon, but all the gyms here have 1k+ Pokemon so I'm still scared.

What's the difference between the HP of a Pokemon and its CP? I know CP is combat power. Which is more important?
