Last night I made soba-noodle stir fry, which usually involves 1/2 a cup of plum sauce. I totally wasn't paying attention and used half a cup of thai chili sauce. Holy crap. Then I forgot, and had the leftovers today for lunch. My mouth is ON FIRE. Again.
Someone reassure me that I'm not the only one with bonehead mistakes?
Once i invited my in laws over for dinner. We had just gotten married and it was my first time cooking for them so I was nervous. I don't remember what I made but I do remember that I set my spatula down on the stove and then accidentally turned on the element. Just as the in laws came in the spatula caught fire and the metal handle started throwing off sparks. They came into the kitchen as ash started falling all over and the smoke alarm went off. My mil didn't laugh but I am sure she was laughing on the inside and she helped me mop the floor and wipe everything down. I was mortified
Usually I'm a total Wolfgang in the kitchen, but one time I was making salmon with a ginger teriyaki glaze and we ran out of teriyaki sauce. I decided that since I had wasabi soy sauce, that would be a suitable alternative. worst.meal.ever. To his credit, H tried to power through and eat it even though it was awful and he hates wasabi. I had to tell him that I was going to order pizza regardless, so food would be wasted and he might as well stop eating.

I tried making migas for the first time - total fail. I think it took too long for everything to cook through, and the bottom was totally overcooked (overcooked eggs = bad). Other than that, I'm not sure where things went wrong. If anyone has a good recipe for migas, suggestions are welcome!
Why did you not throw it away after your mouth was in flames last night?
I totally do bonehead things all the time, both when in the kitchen and out of it.
It was actually quite tasty once you get over the HOLY FIRE part of it. So we decided to keep it. I wish I'd remembered to label it as spicy, though. I don't have any water handy.
I've done all sorts of things. My biggest "mistake" though is that I forget to take things out of the freezer and then try to make dinner and am like "Oh, damn!" I do it like once a month. I need to put a flashing sign up or something!

The bolded part is exactly me. My husband calls me "Honey badger" (as in, "honey badger don't give a shit") because I do things all the time that are so not-thinking.

Haha so you just needed a "Tasty - Drink with Milk" label. Even if you had fire mouth at least it was good. That makes the pain worth it
a few weeks ago I was going to make spaghetti and meatballs. I made my meatballs and had my sauce simmering on the stove. Put them in the sauce to cook. When I went to check on them they were falling apart. So I had the bright idea just to break them up and cook the meat in the sauce.
Then I realized I would have no idea when the meat was done and didn't want to make myself of my hubby sick, so I just threw it all out. Wasted my sauce and the meat... it was definately not my night!

Crockpot mistakes galore! 1. Forgot to plug it in (and had to throw away a ton of chicken & eat cereal for dinner). 2. Made sure it was plugged in, but turned it on high for 8 hours instead of low (another cereal night).
