My Grandmother is 92. She will be moving to a new senior living community in the next month. She currently has four cats. She can only take two with her. She knows which two cats she wants to take, they are older and calmer. The two cats she wants to rehome are a stray she took in, which then had kittens, and the one kitten she did not manage to give away at that time. She wants to give both to the same home because of the one is the other's mom. I would like to make sure they don't go to someone who will abandon or abuse them. They are both fixed. Our local shelter is a kill shelter so she won't consider that.
Does anyone know if there are organizations or websites that can help us find an appropriate home for these cats? I don't know where to start with this.
Look up pet/cat rescues that are local (to her/you). It's very, very hard to rehome an animal by yourself- rescue groups have teams of volunteers that do their best to make sure pets go into great homes (home visits, reference checks).
Adult cats can take time, and the "go together" might not be possible- but, I'm sure they'll do what they can. Make sure they're UTD on vaccines and have had recent physicals- be honest about their personalities- and get some good photos.
