We did this dinner show 5 years ago. We'll be meeting up with MIL, SIL and her family when we go in January. My 180 is coming up soon and I've been trying to think of somewhere for us to have a fun dinner.
They don't want to spend money on park tickets, and I thought it could be fun for us to do a late afternoon activity at Fort Wilderness, maybe doing archery, horseback riding, etc. Then have dinner at HDDR after. But I just checked the prices and they've gone up a ton. $68 or so for tickets. I know SIL will not like the cost, though it does include alcohol and tip, so that part's nice. And I don't think we spent that much less after all was said and done at Ohana last year.
Is the show still as fun and corny as ever? Food still decent? MIL likes to drink, so sangria refills come quickly?
I was there in September. The show is AWESOME. Really really cheesy and funny. The food was good. My Mom even had the vegetarian option and thought it was GREAT. The Sangria depends on your server BUT you CAN order a pitcher of each drink for the table. Which means you have more control over your amount and it's still included.
For 68.00 you get dinner with drinks and dessert ( let's say that's a 30.00 value) PLUS the show PLUS tip included. I still think it's one of the best values o n property.
Maybe book a carriage ride afterward? I have always wanted to do it but no one I am with ever wants to. Whomp Whomp.
I haven't done it... But it seems like a good value for what you get, like PP said... You're getting a show, dinner, dessert, and alcohol. I don't think that's a bad price. You could also look at going over to wilderness lodge and eating at whispering canyon. That's a fun restaurant- you could get family style, or other entree. So your SIL will have a little more control over her cost...
OP- If you still want to spend the day at The Fort but your SIL doesn't want to do HDDR because of the price, you can ALSO do the buffet at Trails End and then go over to the FREE ( marshmallows and smores kits are extra) Chip and Dale camp fire and movie??
What about eating at Trails End restaurant at FW? I heard that the food there is the same and it's an all you can eat buffet. Plus it would be about half the cost of $ is a concern. It's one of the hidden gems of Disney according to Disney Tourist blog and a few other articles I've read.
I will say we have never eaten at Trails End but did Hoop de Doo in December 2011 and I did really enjoy it.

LOL, @savestheday and I are thinking the same (I didn't read her post before I responded).

We were there in January a d loved it . My son got to be part of the show.
We've also done trails end and the chip and dale campfire. Both of those were good too. You can get a ton of food at trails end, holy smokes. And they have a bar (but that's not included in the price).
