What would you do? I have never been to CA before. I like anything kitschy and or anything historical. Also any restaurants we must eat at? But not break the bank.
Hey there! We were in LA for a week last year (Oct/Nov), and had a great time.
Will you have a car? I hope so, b/c in my mind, you'll definitely need one. A car and patience (for that LA traffic).
Some notable places we ate at: - In N Out burgers- We're from OH so whenever we get a chance to eat there, we will. Usually a lunch or a late night dinner/snack - Foot trucks- they're notorious in LA. We ate at Grilled Em All, which just happened to be the winner of Food Network's Great Food Truck Race - Bay Cities Deli Godmother sandwich - Father's Office Burger (so good!) - Langer's pastrami sandwich- OMGood
Places to visit: - LACMA (Los Angeles County Museum of Art)- We arrived there the day before Halloween so I was able to visit the Tim Burton exhibit; beautiful museum and grounds - Walked Holly wood Blvd (lots of souvenir shops, Mann's Chinese Theater, etc) - LOVED the Warner Brothers tour- definitely recommend this one! - Santa Monica area - Visited all 3 Modern Family homes - Venice Beach - Visited Hollywood sign, went to the Observatory - Looked around Little Tokyo - High Voltage Tattoo Shop (where LA Ink used to film)
More details are in my travel blog in my signature. Hope you have a great time- we did
We are actually staying in Irvine. DH has to work there a couple of days.
Irvine is not in LA. It's much further south. If you want to explore LA, you will need a car. Are you comfortable with traffic?
On the plus side, you will be close to Laguna Beach if you'd like to explore that area. In terms of historical, Irvine is only a few minutes away from Mission San Juan Capistrano too.
Ditto to what Kirkette said!
Irvine is definitely NOT LA.
My last trip up to LA was about a month ago. It took just over 2 hours during non-rush hour traffic to get from Anaheim to Hollywood...it was the worst LA traffic I have dealt with in years.
You could easily keep yourself busy in the OC. Head over to the beach for a day, go check out the mission in San Juan Capistrano, go to Disneyland.
If you like baseball see if the Angels will be playing at home while you are out here.
You can take Amtrak into LA if you dont want to drive. From Union Station in LA you can hop on the metro to get to Hollywood and Highland if you want to do the tourist stuff.
