We are buying a house with tile in the entire house (yuck). Due to some other expenditures, we are not going to change out the floors right away. Eventually we want to add wood to the DR and LR but down the road.
Our dining area is quite large and with our table I think will seem lost. Is it weird to put a rug under the table or is that a no-no?
FWIW, we will only use this table for more formal occasions, we have an eat-in kitchen area. Also no kids, so food spillage not an issue.
Also, expect to hear from me often coming up, since the whole house is a blank slate. My eyes and mind are still recovering from viewing the house as it was...all Texas stars, cowboy motif, antique guns, antlers.....bleh.
We have a carpeted dining room that will eventually be wood, but I don't think it would be weird. We also put a huge area rug in our kitchen under the table and it looks great. I would PIP, but I can't find my camera since the move.
I guess no homes with this look have caught my eye, as I have been flipping through magazines and idea sites... so I wasn't sure if it was an out of favor look.
Just make sure it's big enough to pull the chairs out and have them still be on the rug. Too small just looks silly. And when the chair legs get caught, it is annoying.

We have wood floors with a carpet under our dining room table. When you pull the chairs out, the back legs are on the floor and the front are on the carpet but a bigger carpet would have looked odd in our room. Here are a couple of photos.

This.
And if you get a rug with a print, the occasional food stain will be hidden fairly easily. Light colors or solid colors will show stains more.
