So, Tman has been spending some time home alone this summer. Not a ton, but a day here and there. We have been communicating via messaging because we don't have a house phone. That in addition to some changes coming for this school year have warranted, in our opinion, him getting a phone. We didn't buy him an iPhone or anything, but it's a freebee deal through T-mobile and it doesn't add much to our plan (like ten bucks). I am still really kind of on the fence about some of the other stuff he can use the phone for, but I'm hoping it's going to be a good thing...a tool if you will. Haha...trying to convince myself a little bit that this isn't a horrible idea.
Anyway, the timing of this just happens to line up with his birthday tomorrow. His new bed is his main gift. We already told him that and he's excited about it. Okay, so here's the part that's cracking me up. I decided to buy a super cheap $2 pillow at Walmart, hide his phone inside the stuffing, sew it up, and wrap the pillow as his birthday gift. Tman is always so appreciative and excited with gifts, so I can just see it. He's going to open it and talk about how comfy it is and how he's going to use it on his new bed and he's going to feign super excitement...all the while, I'm sure thinking in the back of his mind, "Why the heck did they wrap up a pillow for me as a gift"? And then the phone is going to ring. I can see his face. I wish it was today. It's going to be awesome.

I love it! This beats us getting an old style phone for DD and giving it to her first - H wanted to just get her that instead of the iPhone, but I told him I wasn't going to teach her how to text on it! So funny.
ETA: Getting DD a phone has given ME a piece of mind that makes the phone so worth it. Just being able to get a hold of her even when she's at a friends house is great. I know you didn't get him an iPhone, but the find friends ap is really great to have, too.
