I am so pissed about this. ToT at DCA is the only ride that I ever got to preview as a CM so it holds a special place in my heart. The ride is already themed perfectly for the land it is in at DCA and they need to leave it alone!! I really hope they are getting the same backlash they got when they tried to remove Mr. Toads. We don't like it when they change stuff out here.
It's my favorite ToT ride....I love the drops without the weird horizontal nonsense the WDW and Tokyo have.
I am disappointed that they are going Marvel, but I am not as upset about the GotG overlay as I thought I would be. I guess since the drops will be the same that's good enough for me...plus, really fun music.
I'm so sad about this! One of my all time favorite rides and I love the theme/story as is. I used twilight Zone music to have the video dialogue memorized.
:: cue the Twilight Zone music ::
I do love the theme/decor and the story. We even have the DVD of the movie with Kirsten Dunst. ;p
I'm so sad about this too, ToT is one of my favorite rides. I'm going to miss the Twilight Zone theme. I'm going to have to get in a lot of rides on ToT during our next trip.
I think it's crazy that they're doing this with a very popular attraction. It's not really like taking a dated ride like Maelstrom (leaving aside all of the issues with Frozen in Epcot) and reformatting it with a more topical IP. Tower of Terror draws big crowds as it is!
Why are they trying to cram GOTG down everyone's throats?
Because they paid $4 billion for Marvel and the next GOTG comes out next summer...just in time for the new ride.
I don't see how they are going to get it down in six months.
Overlay and they already have the ride designed/programmed. They aren't tearing down anything; they are using the existing ride and just changing the theme. The hard work is already done so all they have to do is decorate the interior of the ride. They managed to switch out Soarin in 24 hrs since all they had to do was swap out the movie and upload the ride software. Disneyland has theme swapping down to an art form since they do it on multiple rides every year (HM, SM, JB, SW).

Wasn't Frozen Ever After "just" putting an overlay on Maelstrom, though?
I think this one has been in the works for awhile even if it was just announced. Looking forward to seeing how it turns out!

Frozen ride is the only real apples to apples comparison and that took way longer than six months. And all they did was decorate the interior of the ride. It will be interesting to see what happens.

Frozen is at WDW. DLR has been swapping out rides/decorations for years. They also dont seem to have the same issues with getting stuff done that plague WDW. Stuff out here opens on time but WDW takes forever; Test Track was supposed to open when I worked at EPCOT back in 1996 then it got pushed back to 1997 and it officially opened in 1999. I believe DLR when they say something will open since they have a track record of actually delivering on time.
