H and I have small policies through work (15k each) that would cover funeral cost but nothing else. I would like to get our own policies as well. Nothing major just enough to pay off the house and car so we could be comfortable on 1 salary and not struggle (maybe 100k each).
Anyway, my question is: Is it best to get it through the company we have our home/car policies or a seperate company like Metlife that specializes in life insurance? or does it not matter at all?
I don't think it matters. Just make sure when you compare prices you are looking a the same policy details. I have found protective to be the cheapest option for clients recently.

Does your employee offer larger policies that you can purchase? H and I have life insurance through my employer and it is a lot cheaper than buying it on our own.

If not, just shop around to find the best rates.
No, we can't buy any larger policy through work. Though we do get more if the person dies at work. I always tell H if he is going to have a heartattack and die, he should do it at work

I went through Select Quote to see what the best options were and then chose a insurer through there. I also priced out what it would cost bundled with our home owners and auto insurer but it was more expensive than the quotes I received from Select Quote.
