DS is 7. If he gets sent home with a think sheet of any kind he gets to spend the bulk of the evening in his room. I figure that is not overly extreme since there are toys in there. Just enough of a punishment to deter him most of the time.
If it was serious enough to send a note home, I think it is serious enough to address at least with a conversation.
Perhaps reiterate about using his words and a polite tone of voice. Doesn't mean he needs to let others cut in front him, but that he needs to keep his hands to himself.
My kid is only 3, so talking about things after the fact are still a bit dodgy, but a 5.5 year old should remember.

Although I'm not quite there yet, I would say it at least warrants a convo and possibly something being taken away temporarily ( show after dinner, favorite activity for one day etc...) I think that if its not a reoccurring issue then the punishment shouldnt be as severe as if this is a daily/weekly issue.
