Ugh ugh ugh, my dog got sick in April (not eating, lethargic, etc.) we paid almost $500 for an ultrasound which said he had liver cirrhosis but they would need a biopsy $850 to determine its specific cause or we could go with two different empirical approaches for treatment. We decided against the biopsy and went on 4 medications which cost about $120 a month plus blood testing every 4 weeks which is about $50. All throughout this time he really hasn't been any better he even went on a three week course of steroids when his face and eyes broke out in horrible itching/scales which could either be due to liver failure or allergies. He is repeatedly refusing food and for the last two days is refusing all medicine/treats. He hasn't walked further than my backyard for over two months. I feel his quality of life is very poor and yet every time I talk to the vet it is try some other option. Just now the sub vet said he needs another ultrasound to see if he is in true liver failure. I basically said I feel he is suffering and maybe this is his time and she said "two days of not eating doesn't really seem like a big deal". I got off the call in tears. I don't know what to do here. I can't go on spending thousands for my dog when it seems he has no life quality at this point. I don't understand why neither of the vets in the office will offer to let him go. I feel like a butcher. Please tell me Im not crazy. I just can't deal with this right now
