We are taking my daughter to Disneyland for the first time in October for her 5th birthday. We are local but are planning on staying at a hotel close to the park. We are going w my in laws and possibly my parents. Our tentative plan is to go to Disney the first day and California Adventures the next. Where do I need to start to make the most efficient use of our time. Help me make this magical and all that stuff pretty please.

The first thing you need to do is look at the schedule for the days you will be going to the park. In addition to Mickeys Halloween Party you also have the CHOC walk at the end of the month.
Be prepared for DCA to be busy on the nights that Disneyland closes early for the party.
If you want to see World Of Color look into the WOC dining package; you have a few restaurants to choose from and you can opt for lunch or dinner.
You might also want to consider doing Mickeys Halloween Party. The kids can dress up and trick or treat throughout the park and the lines for rides in Fantasyland are super short. It is a separate ticket so you would not be able to use your regular park ticket to get in.

Get fast passes for radiator springs racers first thing then do toy story mania (no fast pass) at opening at cal adventure. The rest of the lines aren't usually bad.
