The WOC that is ending on the 5th is the Diamond anniversary version. The old version (the original) is what they will be doing on the 6th. I love the original so I am excited that it will be back!!
DCA does have kid friendly areas so there is plenty to do if you decide to hop over. You might just want to play it by ear and see how your day plays out. You can always upgrade your ticket if you decide that you want to hop.
alleinesein I was wondering whether or not you could upgrade your ticket after the fact so that's good to know. Is WOC only at DCA? If we don't do a parkhopper pass will we be able to watch it?
Only at DCA And you can't watch it outside the park. You can see some of it from some of the rooms at the Grand and Paradise Pier but the majority of the show takes place on the water.
If you want to upgrade a ticket just go to any ticket window and tell them you want to upgrade to a 1 day park hopper.

If you're only there for one day, and your child is 14 months, I think DLR would be enough by itself. My son loves Cars Land at DCA, so we have to go there, but unless your family are huge Cars fans, I think you can skip it. DCA also has Toy Story Midway Mania, which is fun, and personally I love Tower of Terror, Grizzly Falls (a water/rapids ride), and California Screamin' (roller coaster), but those aren't rides you can go on with a 14 month old. If you and your husband really want to ride those, you could switch off, but I think you'll have plenty to do at DLR if you only have one day. IMO World of Color is nice, but not a must-see.
It's too bad you'll be there the day after the 60th Anniversary celebration ends, because the nighttime parade and show at DLR are AMAZING.
