Hi there. I normally post in CE&P. But I need some Seattle help. It appears that we are moving for my husband's job. The job is located in the Sand Point area. I need to find housing. We have 2 dogs (one is a golden retriever). Any agents that you all can suggest? I'd love to stay as close to his job as possible. We only have 1 vehicle and he's happy to take public transportation but want to keep the commute under 45 minutes.

Oh Hi. Welcome to Seattle!
House or apartment or condo? Buy or rent? Budget? (Is he by chance going to be affiliated with UH or Children's or the military? they'll have housing ombudsmen or boards or similar help as well.)
spunbutterfly and mominatrix are both close enough to the area to know better about housing in that area, I think. niq how about you guys? I'm pretty far north. The only reason I'm in that area would be to visit Children's for the grands. But I'd consider, depending on pricing, Magnolia, Sand Point, West Seattle, Renton(ish and location dependent because 405). I'd avoid a commute from the south and try staying nearby or do an east or west commute.
Thanks! It is with the hospital. I'd love to be as close as possible. We want to rent. Under $3500 a month. And I need at least 2 bedrooms and 1.5 baths.

This should be feasible. Are you wanting a house? Condo? apt?

I am open to anything. The dogs would probably prefer a condo, townhouse or house. I would rather not be up on the 6th floor having to deal with a dog that has to go potty.

I am in Seattle, I think you should definitely be able to find something in the area for that price, you could definitely rent a house/townhouse for that.
The basic rule of thumb is that north-south commutes are easier than east-west commutes (water, hills, freeways etc make those harder).
ETA: we've always just used craigslist and had good luck (but be warned, lots of the house rentals are scams - easy to spot, but annoying). stuff goes FAST though, the housing market is crazy here (buying or renting). Do you have a local friend who could check out places for you? can you come visit beforehand to look at places?

Some neighborhoods close to Children's (definitely look at the bus routes on a map though - it's a decent system, but you can definitely be in a commuting black hole):
Wedgewood (really neighborhood-y, quiet) Ravenna (good neighborhood, a little more going on, walkable) Northgate (more reasonable prices, less walkable)
The neighborhoods like Laurelhurst & Windermere are $$$ mansions (or obviously the areas close to the water), U-district is full of college kids, Greenlake and Wallingford are nice, but probably getting into a more tricky commute by bus (ok by car).

Welcome! I think you should be able to find something around there. If he is working for SCH though they have shuttles that could open up more areas for you as well. PM me if you want specifics but I live in an area where I can take light rail plus a shuttle in less than 45. That could open up some fun spots.
But one thing you should know is that Seattle just recently passed an exceedingly asinine law that requires landlords to rent to the first person who applies. Many renters are really irritated by this too since it might mean many landlords will just not post properties and allow places to go by word of mouth. I'm not sure when it goes into effect, but you should be aware of that in case what you are trying to find is slim.
what the hell is this?! I never heard about it...
also, this makes no sense?! what if they have a terrible credit/rental history? I mean, I guess I can see if they are trying to help with discrimination, but this is just crazy.

Thanks ladies. We are meeting with a realtor tomorrow. I have already found a really cute house in Wedgwood. I'm hoping it works out and I can spend the rest of the weekend just exploring. And that rental law is crazy!

oh I know it we're paying through the roof to live where we are and are trying to save to buy... which is a whole other crazy market. I seriously love it here though!
