Give me the basics that I'll need for Seattle. Moving from Texas to there will be a big change. Links or pictures would be awesome. I can't wear Hunter boots because they are too tall. I may need to try on the kids version. For now, I do have a pair of duck boots but I'd love something that looks a little bit nicer for rainy days.
Thanks ladies and I'm getting more excited about this move. Not the 31 hour drive but the opportunity to explore the PNW.
RULE 1: We're pretty dang casual up here. Sometimes too much (like, I'm sorry, jeans to the ballet aren't ok in my book).
Fully agree with layers, our weather can be really schizophrenic so being able to take off or add as needed throughout the day is good. TBH, I don't see rainboots as often as people outside of here seem to think. It's kind of whatever you like, just make sure it's water proof or strongly water resistant (and then don't step in puddles). Northface & Patagonia and that sort of jacket are big staples. Also, hoods not umbrellas for general daily unless you want to look like tourist .

Get a thin rain jacket. One of those that rolls up into itself. Those are good to just keep in the trunk or at work or something.
I agree, no umbrella. I mean, I guess you could have one one hand for if you plan on watching a kid's soccer game outside or something, but not for daily use.
Also agree that rain boots are probably not necessary. I have some, but I mostly only wear them when I'm walking the dogs.
If you wear dresses, you'll want to wear tights under them most of the time.
I also wear a knit hat almost every day in the winter. And I wear a knee length wool coat every day.
Here are things that are essential in my wardrobe. Riding boots and a variety of booties/ankle boots. I actually don't own any rain boots because my calves are too big to fit any I've tried on. Variety of leggings to wear under tunics and dresses. A good rain coat that is long in the back...spend the money on a good one. I like Helly Hansen and have a hooded trench raincoat I wear year round. It rarely gets cold enough for a puffy coat but I do also wear a wool hooded coat in the winter.
In general, think fall weather most of the year. It's drizzly but not a heavy driving rain. As others have mentioned layers are idea. I also wear a lot of fun printed scarves.
If I could afford it, I would be buying a lot of my more casual clothing from Helly Hansen, Patagonia, Kavu, and Eddie Bauer. To my office I wear mostly Banana Republic and Boden style of clothing with functional pumps but only when I have client. My office, and I think generally all of Seattle, is very casual. I often wear Athleta/LLL style of clothing to work.
Thanks ladies. We hit the Columbia store over the weekend and I got a great jacket that I think will be good for the fall. I need a longer rain coat with a hood for sure though. I've got plenty of riding boots and a few pairs of just slip on type sneakers. I'm not going to be working right away so maybe Athlete will get more of my $$.
It is POURING today. Invest in a good rain coat. ;-; And they make short Hunters. Do those not work either?
Yea that was a pretty intense storm. This winter is supposed to be colder because of la Nina. Usually at the outlets you can get a good deal on under armour or north face. I get 2 pairs of the ugg type boots from Costco each fall and that last me the cold season since you can just pull them on.
Tbh most people here do not use an umbrella unless it is a crazy rainstorm, and even then some people just use a raincoat.
Most days people here wear jeans and layered tops. Like IK said sometimes Seattle is too casual.
