For eating, no necessarily growing them. My stepdad and I are debating, lol. He is from Boston but has lived here in California since like the 70s. He thinks people on the east coast don't eat artichokes at all. I think people eat them regularly everywhere and he's crazy. WHO IS RIGHT?

In on the east coast and have only had a whole artichoke once. Otherwise I've had it in spinach and artichoke dip. It doesn't seem particularly common here
Only common in dips in my (admittedly limited) circle in the northeast.
I'm sure they are probably available if I went looking for them. I just don't think they are an everyday sort of vegetable the same way that broccoli or even brussel sprouts are.
I live in PA and we've always had artichokes. My mom makes them steamed and we dip the leaves in butter and scrape off the meat with our teeth. And the heart, OMG, yum. One her her favorite stories is me throwing a tantrum in the ACME produce aisle when I was 3 because I wanted them, and I'm 39 now, so we've had them for a while

PNW... my mom would cook them growing up (dipped in mayo, I wasn't a huge fan). I was at a farmer's market recently when I realized I'd never cooked them for my son (they aren't cheap like they were when I was little!) Bought a couple and he liked them (used garlic aioli to dip the leave in). I put them on my grocery list for this week since they're on sale.
NYC girl here (well, a few months ago I moved to NC). In NYC we ate lots of artichokes. I also grew up in a very Italian-American neighborhood and stuffed artichokes are a staple. I tend to use artichoke hearts in my artichoke-containing dishes.

East Coast person (lived there until 30s) - used to have artichoke dip regularly and even had it whole on occasion (love pulling and dipping into butter).

I love butter but have you tried it with a spicy mayo?? Omg, so good.
I think I'm gonna make some when I get home tonight.
