The price of membership is a level of self-awareness that involves not denigrating valued members of our community and perpetuating systemic racism. Credit to compassrose
If you are new/been away/etc please read before posting:
This is a community that seeks to encourage and support each other.
We will NOT tolerate microagressions and hate speech in regards to a person's race, religion, sexual orientation or creed. We will not shame socioeconomic statuses, i.e. No welfare queen posts.
We will speak up in times of need and support. If you do not abide by the generosity of spirit of this community you run the risk of being banned.
PLEASE NOTE: IF YOU SPOUT OFF HATE SPEACH, WE WILL NOT HELP YOU. WE WILL NOT ENGAGE WITH YOU. WE WILL NOT LIKE YOUR POSTS. YOU WILL BE CALLED OUT AND MADE VERY UNWELCOME. IT WILL BE CALLED OUT AND BROUGHT YO EVERY SINGLE TIME YOU TRY TO REJOIN THIS COMMUNITY.
It's a good idea to lurk for awhile before posting so you can get a feel for the board dynamics. We truly do welcome new people but it's always a good idea to figure out if this is a good fit for you before joining in.
I don't go here, but found some of the recent threads, that I think have prompted this one, via CEP. I would suggest taking a look at the articles in the reading list rugbywife and @kirkette posted in another thread, as a reference (c&p below). And/or do some lurking and reading on CEP as well.
(hat tip rugbywife and kirkette for these lists, and no exclusion intended for references shared by others - these were two that caught my eye personally, and ones I wanted to bookmark for my reference. Bottom line, if you look around these boards, we have a wealth of resources at our fingertips to learn and expand our perspectives - so easy to take advantage of this opportunity.)
Bad Feminist, by Roxane Gay (as you may want to better understand the white supremacist history of Classical Feminism before proudly waving the Feminist flag)
The Souls of BlackFolk, by W.E.B. DuBoise
Negroland, by Margo Jefferson
And the Yale Open Course African American History series link on CEP
Don't say you want to do better. You've got to do the work, people! These aren't "ethnic books"; these are everybody who chooses to be an intellectual, and not do stupid shit books. Back to Top

It's speech, not speach (in the bottom paragraph). Also, the term microaggression is probably new to a lot of people so it might be helpful to define it.
