We moved ours from 6:30 to 6:00 a couple years ago. While I'd like to do "directly after school" my girls come from several schools and it's not convenient for working parents.

Our meetings are every other Friday at 5:30. They used to be Thursday's at 6. I'm not happy about the time change.
A lot of troops around here meet right after school. Our troop was mashed together from a bunch of smaller groups, so our girls all go to different schools.
Ours are right after school, Wednesdays once or twice (they are deciding still) a month from 3:15-4:30. Kids all go to the school, so leaders pick them up. Parents either pick up at 4:30 or kids go to extended day.
Add me to team doesn't do late activities. ADHD+9:00 bedtime+6:30 wakeup does not go well.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”

We aren't involved w GS anymore but when we were the meetings were at 6. Our 4h meetings are usually from 6-830 (that one is a killer, thankfully only once a month). Sports practices right now are from 6-730, but as it gets dark earlier it will move to like 5. We do a lot of dinners in the car, showers and bed as soon as they get home. They're usually in bed by 9. Ages 12, 9, and 4.
All one school, it's right after school and lasts until 4:30 pm. The leaders and volunteers pick them up from class and then I pick her up after the meeting. Only one meeting a month.
The girls really do have a wonderful time together though, and with the right leaders and parents who are willing to help when needed, it can make for a really great year.
This is the first year that GS is in my area. DD will be a Brownie and I will be one of the troupe leaders. We're only meeting 1x/month (I hope we can increase that) and it will start at 6:00 b/c my co-leader cannot get there any earlier due to work. the first meeting will probably start at 6:30 due to a conflict with Hebrew school.

I had bad experiences with Girl Scouts as a child, and they have stuck with me for decades.
All of those girls were so mean to me.
And a troop leader said I could never join because I wasn't Christian.
DS's cub scout den meetings started at 7:15pm. It was harder for us because early on DS attended a private school until 4th that started much earlier than the public school most kids attended. For EOW, it wasn't a huge deal and the benefit of scouting outweighed the inconvenience.
There's an old saying in scouting that the complaint form is a volunteer application. If you need an afterschool time slot, I'm sure the local council would be thrilled to have you step up as leader and run a meeting then.

Fuck all of those girls AND that shitty troop leader. That would not happen or be tolerated in my troop.
Growing up our meetings were right after school. The leader and a couple other SAHMs would pick up the entire troop from school and take them to their house for the meeting. Both my parents worked and it was very easy for them since they just picked me up from the leaders house when they were done working. It takes a village and all that jazz. We were very lucky my friends parents were willing to help out where they could.
ETA: this was before kids needed cars seats until college so this may not work nowadays. LOL
