Yesterday my Momma calls me from her new job* to get my reaction to something that just took place.
She has an office mate who is a white women in her 40's. The roommate tells my Mom how the Whole Foods near her has such limited parking, they have to have security guards there to monitor the lot. My Momma then says they have problems at her local Whole Foods as well, to which the roommate immediately replies with" You mean with drugs?"
May I have your thoughts on this please?
*Mom is retired but likes to do contract work sometimes. When I grow up imme be like her.

The nice reaction would be like what @natariru, said, something like why would you say that? But my initial reaction would be a white hot rage that would start at the top of my head and flow through my body down to my toes. WTF would that be her reaction when they were talking about parking? Really?!?
My reaction would be to ask her to explain her fool-ass question. As in, "why would you assume that my local Whole Foods has a problem with drugs?" Not that I would actually listen to her answer, but she'd have to squirm in her bullshit for awhile. Then I wouldn't speak to her again unless it was work-related.
The curious part of me would want to ask "why" should we ask that? In fact, I would respond in a casual matter to see what other foolishness she would drop. But, the "ain't got time for foolishness" side of me would give her the look and move on.
Not to make light of a serious topic--But, who can afford Whole Foods AND drugs??? Last week, I went there to get a few things and paid 100 bucks for like 8 things.

LMAO, this is the best!
I would put her on the spot and ask her why she'd say that. How the hell do you jump from parking problem to drugs?! Ass...
I am really hoping your Mom genuinely asked why she would bring drugs into a conversation about Whole Foods and parking. And then I hope she never entertains another non-work related conversation with this bitch again.

My husband has been ordering my steps on these matters. I am still learning but from what I have gathered, the key is to answer the question with a question. So I like the question, "Why would you ask me that?"/"Why would you think my WF would have problems with drugs?"

I need to be better with this. Often times I am too dumbfounded by what has come out of someone's mouth that I miss my chance.
I am still trying to understand how the woman's train of thought went there...I mean, I can take a guess. How did your mom react?

Me too. That's why I have been getting help from DH lol! He is more accustomed to the craziness than I am, so he handles it much better. I either think sit there with nothing good to say (until later, of course) or get visibly pissed off. Not good options. Flipping it back on the offender is best, IMO. Let them sit there stuck on stupid instead of me .

I am waiting to get an update. It's either go one of two ways " Why would you ask me about drug problems at Whole Foods parking lot when we were just talking about limited parking?" or " Watch your racist statements because the one day you are going to say that shit to the wrong one and get punched"
