My sister will have her surgery later today. She has ovarian cancer, small call carcinoma. Full hysterectomy and they'll poke around to stage the cancer and see how far it's spread.
I always feel weird asking for prayers, but some good thoughts on her behalf would be amazing. She has surgery at 4pm today.
Katy Perry "Rise" is her battle cry. Seems so fitting.
ETA: September is Ovarian Cancer awareness month. Small cell carcinoma is a very rare and aggressive cancer - approx 500 people diagnosed, and specifically is common in younger women. The scary thing is that the symptoms present more as GI issues. This is another good reminder to always be your own advocate when it comes to your body. You know when something is wrong. She really regrets accepting IBS as a diagnosis. Celiac has also developed in the last 4 years.
"Can have no symptoms, but people may experience: Pain areas: in the abdomen or pelvis Gastrointestinal: bloating, change in bowel habits, indigestion, or nausea Abdominal: abdominal fullness, fluid in the abdomen, or lump in the abdomen Whole body: cancer-related fatigue or loss of appetite Also common: weight loss"
I'm so sorry your sister is in this position. If you don't mind my asking, what lead to the eventual diagnosis (after GI symptoms were explained away as IBS)?
