TGIF! I had a pretty short week, but I'm still glad it's Friday. I woke up late and was in a huge rush this morning. I didn't have time to throw my lunch together, so I will have to go grab something today.
We have a busy weekend ahead - H is working for a few hours tomorrow. H's dad & step-mom are coming over to watch DD's soccer game. And then, Seahawks Sunday!
Also, regarding football: I watched the Denver/Carolina game yesterday and Cam Newton is seriously so gross. He was FLOSSING his teeth on the sideline. He disgusts me regardless, so I'm glad they lost. But, he was hit pretty hard a few times and I'm betting he had a concussion. Sad that some of the rules don't apply to certain players and it puts their well-being at risk.
And, seriously if the Hawks sit during the national anthem, I'm going to be pissed. As a veteran, I think it's very offensive.
I am still laying in bed for a few more minutes and then I will get up and go to work.
I get why people are upset about the seahawks sitting for the nation anthem, but with all the criticism that comes against the BLM movement and their ways of protest, I can understand them exercising their rights in this form of peaceful protest with regard to the treatment of black people in this nation in light of the climate lately.
Not much going on. I'm at work today after being home yesterday and doing A LOT of cleaning. Our washing machine is on the fritz, so that is sucking big time. It doesn't agitate much so I can only put in really tiny loads or else they don't get cleaned at all. Stuff like underpants and James's dirty work clothes are getting soaked in Oxyclean in advance of the washing machine otherwise they have to go through several times. The spin cycle is also really screwy. It will either go off balance really bad or won't spin much and then I have to respin. One load can take like 2 hours just for the washer part. Not sure if we are going to get it repaired or if we are going to get a new one. We've already repaired this one once, and I saw online that washers sold in the 2000s are only expected to last 7 years! WHAT!? That's insane. But James made a good point that we do TONS of laundry. With the dogs sleeping on our bed, we wash our bedding A LOT. James works construction so he is REALLY dirty and we have to wash his clothes every day. We have an 11 year old, so he gets dirty. And (this is something we should change) we don't reuse towels. All that equals tons of laundry. At least one load/day and on the weekends and my days off it's several loads.
Oh, I'm wearing Tman's seahwaks T-shirt today for blue Friday. He didn't even notice. Haha.
Hopefully going to sell tons of popcorn this weekend. Our time slots are limited this weekend, but hopefully it will still go well.
I am so glad for the weekend. Maybe not so much for the things I need to get done but oh well. Today I get to start processing about 50lbs of pears. Its a lot.
And, seriously if the Hawks sit during the national anthem, I'm going to be pissed. As a veteran, I think it's very offensive.
Why do you think it's very offensive? The right to peacefully protest is a MAJORLY IMPORTANT tenet of the American belief system and something that continually needs to be exercised and made use of because "use it or lose it" (as evidenced by all the times peaceful protestors here in the US *still* get attacked by police). My understanding is that they are in part, doing it to show some solidarity and support of Kaepernick who has been getting MASSIVE blowback for his protest. It's not sitting out of laziness or lack of respect but as a calculated protest. I don't care a whit about football but I find the decision if they follow through with it, to be a good attention-getter to something that is a national crisis.
I'm a half disaster today. Bad dreams about evil ex dating one of my high school friends despite what he did to me and all of them hiding it from me and being on his side, then they all tried to beat me up when I confronted them about it. Woke up in physical pain so starting my day already down a few spoons. Ivan was screaming like he hadn't been fed in 5 days despite it only being half an hour later than usual. Maybe he's extra desperate because his dad didn't come home last night (on an overnight work-golf "fun day"). I got up half an hour late and didn't get into the shower until 10 minutes before I'm supposed to LEAVE. Then I went out to the car and realized my keys were inside. Thank goodness we keep a hidden key. By then I was leaving at the time I'm supposed to BE at work so I said eff it and stopped at SBUX.
Character creation at game night tonight for a new campaign we'll be starting. Otherwise plans for the weekend are to work on my commmissioned piece since I have the final feedback to finish it, keep on the painfully slow cleaning process, oh, and apparently Overwatch is having a free trial weekend on PS4 so I want to give that a go just to confirm that I'd be terrible at it and it's not worth wasting money on it.

As someone that volunteered to join the military and render the military salute during the national anthem, to respect our flag and our country, I definitely find it offensive. I find it offensive for the friends of mine that died in action, in honor of our country. For all of the people that, regardless of their race have stood up for our country and given everything. Peacefully protest all you want, but why do it to the National Anthem? He's completely dismissing the fact that we, as a country have made strides. Are we perfect? Not at all. Are there issues with race? Definitely. There are tons of other ways to go about this, but the route he is choosing is one that isn't an action to make change, it's actually quite the opposite.

I just can't agree. Did your friends who died only join the military for "honor" or to fight and protect the basic tenets of this country: our Constitution, Amendments, and rights? It's not like he/they are preventing the anthem from being played, knocking the flag out of the bearer's arms, spitting or defiling the flag. Why do it during the anthem? Peacefully sitting to continue to draw attention to a serious problem sparks more conversation, that's why. "Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness" are more and more castles in the air to a widening variety of people in this nation that is reaching a critical point.
I'm not trying to be a b* or pick a fight, I'm just trying to understand but I can't wrap my brain around this form of patriotism.
They are wealthy sports players who have many other outlets to be able to draw attention to the matter vs disrespecting the national anthem. They want "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" for all yet they are going to disrespect it by sitting out to draw attention. All lives matter, not just black lives and this is far from the way to go about trying to bring attention to something.
Hey ya'll! I'm baaaaaaack! Last school year seriously put me on my ass and I think this one will too but I am enjoying my new position so far! So who's doing what these days?

What is your new position?
Behavior Interventionist. I'll be providing small group social emotional lessons, streamlining the behavior intervention...system...at my school, and coaching teachers.
mrslefty, HI hi! I "see" you on FB but good to see you here as well How exciting for your new position, it sounds like you will be doing some amazing things with those kids and staff this year.

That sounds equal parts challenging and rewarding. Congrats and good luck.

Okay, I'm just going to give you the benefit of the doubt that you don't accurately understand what the phrase "black lives matter" MEANS and explain why what you just said is so offensive.
"Imagine that you’re sitting down to dinner with your family, and while everyone else gets a serving of the meal, you don’t get any. So you say “I should get my fair share.” And as a direct response to this, your dad corrects you, saying, “everyone should get their fair share.” Now, that’s a wonderful sentiment — indeed, everyone should, and that was kinda your point in the first place: that you should be a part of everyone, and you should get your fair share also. However, dad’s smart-ass comment just dismissed you and didn’t solve the problem that you still haven’t gotten any!
The problem is that the statement “I should get my fair share” had an implicit “too” at the end: “I should get my fair share, too, just like everyone else.” But your dad’s response treated your statement as though you meant “only I should get my fair share”, which clearly was not your intention. As a result, his statement that “everyone should get their fair share,” while true, only served to ignore the problem you were trying to point out.
That’s the situation of the “black lives matter” movement. Culture, laws, the arts, religion, and everyone else repeatedly suggest that all lives should matter. Clearly, that message already abounds in our society.
The problem is that, in practice, the world doesn’t work that way. You see the film Nightcrawler? You know the part where Renee Russo tells Jake Gyllenhal that she doesn’t want footage of a black or latino person dying, she wants news stories about affluent white people being killed? That’s not made up out of whole cloth — there is a news bias toward stories that the majority of the audience (who are white) can identify with. So when a young black man gets killed (prior to the recent police shootings), it’s generally not considered “news”, while a middle-aged white woman being killed is treated as news. And to a large degree, that is accurate — young black men are killed in significantly disproportionate numbers, which is why we don’t treat it as anything new. But the result is that, societally, we don’t pay as much attention to certain people’s deaths as we do to others. So, currently, we don’t treat all lives as though they matter equally.
Just like asking dad for your fair share, the phrase “black lives matter” also has an implicit “too” at the end: it’s saying that black lives should also matter. But responding to this by saying “all lives matter” is willfully going back to ignoring the problem. It’s a way of dismissing the statement by falsely suggesting that it means “only black lives matter,” when that is obviously not the case. And so saying “all lives matter” as a direct response to “black lives matter” is essentially saying that we should just go back to ignoring the problem." source: fusion.net/story/170591/the-next-time-someone-says-all-lives-matter-show-them-these-5-paragraphs/
If that doesn't explain it well enough for you, here's a nice little illustration:
Nope I complete understand the context of it, we all have our own opinions though. I don't agree with anything of what you posted and how its only one way or the other but like I said we have all have our own opinions of things.

I'm just going to step in here (after being kind of absent for a bit, sorry), but just because you don't agree with something doesn't mean it's not actually an issue. Racism is alive and well, and you are perpetuating it.
As for the National Anthem thing, there are connections to slavery in its lyrics (though we don't sing them): And where is that band who so vauntingly swore That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion, A home and a country, should leave us no more? Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution. No refuge could save the hireling and slave From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave: And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave, O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
Current military and veterans fought for the rights we have in this country. One of them being the right to free speech. Currently, there is a lot of disrespect of POC, and rightfully so, they have had enough. As an ally to POC, I have to ask you to check your privilege here and do some reading. Kaepernick was using his status as an NFL player to make a statement that would have a wide audience and it worked. If it makes you uncomfortable, that's on you. Think about why, and deal with it.
And with that, the Seattle group has officially imploded. I stand with the majority here. Thank you for all the good times ladies! It's been a wild ride this past 8 years. 😘
Okay so here's my post from Facebook the other day and I seriously hope you read this and listen.
Just because your life experience does not include racism, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. It means you need to open your heart and brain to the possibility that there are really horrible things happening that you don't see.
One of my goals for this year is to check my privilege. I debated posting nothing but I realized my silence *is* my privilege. I know I'll lose friends over it. I know people will be "offended" but I have hope some will be reflective.
1. Black lives matter doesn't mean black lives matter more than other lives, it means they need to matter equally. 2. Not standing for a flag is a right we have in this country. We aren't North Korea. Some of ya'll acting like we should be though. 3. We don't get to tell the disenfranchised how to protest inhumane treatment. 4. People are literally dying and yet so many are silent. More worried about standing for a flag than human life. 5. Protest is meant to be uncomfortable. It's meant to make the majority so uncomfortable that the status quo cannot remain. 6. Again, let's not become so blinded by our need to protect a flag that we forget to protect real human lives.
And with that, the Seattle group has officially imploded. I stand with the majority here. Thank you for all the good times ladies! It's been a wild ride this past 8 years. 😘
Nooooooooo. This might mean I have to post with the big kids at CEP and I am not smart enough! I won't be able to keep up with the class!

Black lives matter doesn't mean all lives don't matter. It is about black lives mattering just as much as all other lives. This is not something our country has shown.
They are trying to draw attention to a problem in a peaceful protest. Them sitting down for the national anthem in no way affects you.
I have yet to hear about an acceptable way for BLM to protest. Someone always has something to complain about. Why is that? Is it that what they are doing is so wrong or is it that you don't want to hear it and would rather bury your head in the sand?

This is the argument I have towards veterans on this. You should applaud people using the rights that you have fought for!!!!

I am always shocked when people say veterans fight to protect our flag... Uh...aren't they fighting to protect all Americans? ALL.
ETA All my veteran or currently serving friends/family either liked this, commented on it, or messaged me their support...or alreary posted something similar so obviously it isn't a pervasive issue. Just some.

I know I don't go here but I just gotta say: I served in the military as well and I can assure you, all of the people I served with either don't care or took any offense to what Kaepernick did.
Hell, I don't even like the guy! I'm a 49ers fan (Sorry guys, I'm a transplant from the Bay Area) and he sucks as a QB but I support whatever he's doing outside the field.
In the grand scheme of things, it doesn't affect YOU. You're still living your little life. Please think of something else to get offended about. LOL.
I had tried for some polite dissent from original sentiment posted, but really the amount of passive racism about how "all lives matter" really ended up rubbing me the wrong way. I am upset. People before me said everything I feel in better words than I can.
