So, my 7-year-old is super into Pokémon Go. In case you don't play, basically when you reach a certain level you have to pick one of three teams (Red, Blue, or Yellow) and then you fight the other teams and help your team control gyms.
So, we were on the beach at our Disney hotel, and DS was excited because there were tons of Magikarps around which don't happen near us. This (white) older guy nearby noticed DS obviously hunting Pokémon and said, "Oh, I just dropped a lure" (something that attracts Pokémon to the area). So, DS got really excited because we mostly play in our neighborhood and he hasn't run across anyone else who plays, so he asked the guy what team he's on.
The guy went on this extended rant about how he thinks teams promote "racism" and we are all "one people," etc., etc. He literally went on and on about it -- my DS was just confused and was like, "No, really, what team are you on?" (You have to pick one at the level the guy was at, it's not optional) and the guy refused to say and kept making up teams like "Purple" until I pulled my DS down the beach to find a Slowpoke, lol. I was just flabbergasted at some white guy having the GALL to lecture my obviously biracial Black/Asian child on Pokémon "racism." If there was ever a better analogy for how clueless white people are about what racism really means...
