2-3 months is recent enough. I specifically had a question about their shows that are billed as open to all ages. Fitz and the Tantrums are playing in November with Barns Courtney as an opening act. Events page says it starts at 7:00 pm and is open to all ages. My son (2nd grade) loves Barns Courtney and I was thinking of buying tickets (seats, not GA) and going for the opening act ONLY. I'm just not sure of it for a strictly music venue. Is it more of a bar thT has bands or more of a music venue where you can get drinks? I mean, we take him to sporting events and other events where alcohol is present, I'm just unsure of this particular venue. I was there a few time way back in the 90's when it was still in Cambridge. The only other date he is playing is the Royale and that definitely seems like a nightclub to me and is billed an 18+ Event anyway. I will definitely be calling them to ask as well, but thought I'd ask someone who has actually been there and seen first hand. I know it is very possibly flame worthy to even consider this. That's why I wanted to asks someone who has been there.

I go to a lot of punk and SKA shows, and there are always kids. Always. No judgement here whatsoever. I have a 4 year old and cannot wait to bring her to her first show.
I would for sure feel better taking him to HOB vs. Royale.
Basically the layout is this: There's GA on the bottom level and rails that separate the GA (floor) from the bar area around it. There's no seating at the "bar." It's basically just a walk up, get a drink, go stand somewhere else.
There's a mezzanine area on the second floor with rails that overlook the floor and stage. You can stand up there. I would be 100% comfortable about bringing a 2nd grader on that level if you're okay with standing. I am actually not sure if there's a bar area up there or not. We always get GA. In the back, almost above the mezzanine area are where the seats are. I've sat up there one time for a show we won tickets to. It's very tame up there. You'll be perfectly fine.
