My mom has kept diaries my whole life. Hers are more record keeping than anything emotional. I have journaled on and off since childhood but never consistently.
I am thinking about the bullet journals too. My BFF is a list maker so I kind of want to get her a bullet journal for her birthday this year. I'm not sure if she knows about the concept since she does not use the internet regularly. I call her teenage daughter and tell her to point stuff out to her mother. LOL. If you bullet journal, is this a gift you can give someone else?
I did buy a River Song journal for my H for our anniversary this year. It's for me to write in and give to him to read. I loathe buying cards and he is a giant Doctor Who nerd, so I thought this would be more of a personal thing between us. I wrote some poems for him this summer, so in they go. I hope he likes it.
I love journals, but I'm really about journaling. A lot of times, I buy journals to keep track of story details (and they're easier to fit in my bag than full-sized notebooks). But I always tell myself I'm going to do better at journaling, and I always fail a little. I never have much to say on a day-to-day basis, because most of my days are...well, boring with the same schedule over and over again.
When DH and I got engaged, I bought a journal to give him on our wedding day and wrote letters to him throughout our engagement. Originally, I planned to write in it every day, but that fell by the wayside pretty fast, so I probably only wrote him 50-75 letters, if I had to guess.
DH gave me a journal for our first anniversary this year. I'm trying to write in it every so often. So far, that's meant about once a week, if that.
