I was so happy to see Aziz Ansari and Alan Yang win the Emmy for writing that great episode of Master of None about being the child of immigrant parents. And what does Jimmy Kimmel say? "Now there's almost TOO MUCH diversity on this show."
What did Aziz Ansari do right after AlanYang spoke? My dd hit the remote.
I couldn't figure out. He started to give up on speaking because the music was so loud, and then I think he thought the music was going to stop for him so he came back, but then I think it didn't so he said, "You guys are in so much trouble!" I don't know if he meant the musicians for not letting him speak, or for the audience because Alan Yang told Asian parents to give their kids cameras instead of violins, or what. Save

Oh ok. I thought I missed something that made Kimmel say that. I see that I didn't miss anything. He's so bizarre. A few of his jokes fell very flat and we aren't even an hour in.
“There’s 17 million Asian-Americans in this country, and there’s 17 million Italian-Americans,” Yang said after rattling off a typical list of thank-yous. “They have ‘The Godfather,’ ‘Goodfellas,’ ‘Rocky,’ ‘The Sopranos.’ We got Long Duk Dong. So we got a long way to go, but I know we can get there. I believe in us. It’s just going to take a lot of hard work. Asian parents out there, if you could just do me a favor and just a couple of you get your kids cameras instead of violins, we would be all good.”

I feel like this happens a lot with hosts. They have their jokes and monologue already set and they do not pay attention to what is going on live. So they go on with their joke that may have been funny or gotten a chuckle had the previous speech been different. But these hosts are usually comedians and they should be able to adjust on the fly. They need to pay attention to what is going on.
Was he being sarcastic? I DVRd in case I felt like watching it later on.
I would hope he wasn't being sincere, but as a joke it was both unfunny and in extremely poor taste. Like saying, "A woman for President? That's TOO much equality for me." If the joke is you pretending to be a bigot, that's just not funny IMO.
It was sarcasm. Yet, I think it may have fallen flat to those who didn't see the whole bit from the begininng of the broadcast. If his wit and style are unfamiliar, the viewer hasn't been paying attention to his jokes on this issue since the Oscars, and the joke is taken out of context, I see how it would read as extremely offensive. I laughed at the bit. I laughed at most of his bits throughout the evening. But, I fully admit that I pefer his style of humor to any other Late Night Host (save for John Oliver and Trevor Noah).
Oh, that might explain it...I was still putting the kiddo to bed at 8 so I missed the first 15-20 minutes of the broadcast.
