The most moving part of the night was seeing the mothers of the movement, Lezley McSpadden, mother of Michael Brown, Sybrina Fulton, mother of Tryvon Martin and Gwen Carr, mother of Eric Garner, took the stage. Their pain, strength and hope radiated through the audience. It was hard not to cry.
Spike Lee won an award for activism in the arts. He is a special man. He told the story of how he started making films because he asked what was in a box in her room. It was a camera. She told him he could have it along with the film. That day changed his life.
