We book Fast Passes next week for our upcoming trip for end of November/beginning of December. We thought DS would hit 40" when we picked our dates many months ago. DD is 41" easily, DS (who is actually older by a few months) is, with shoes on, 39". DH and I have finally admitted to ourselves, yeah, he's not going to hit 40". He's so adventurous and would love the 40" rides. We aren't going to take DD on anything DS can't go on (she is more scared of rides and would not want to ride most anyway). It's also the last long trip we plan on taking to Disney for a while, since DS will start K next fall.
I guess there is the slight possibility he could grow, but I'm not going to book FP for it. If he gets there, it will be a nice surprise...but then it will throw a wrench into our touring plan for sure (and the obsessive Disney planner in me can't handle this additional stress!)
I just need to vent to people who will understand my disappointment. In the grand scheme of things it's not a big deal, and we've planned around it, but it would have been so great!

@notquiteblushing Next Tuesday the 27 we book FP. It will definitely make thr trip seem more real! I forgot and scheduled a doctor's appointment that day at 8 am and just remembered this morning. I marked it on my calendar.
He has grown like 2-3 inches in the past year so it would be crazy if he grew that much by the trip. He's 39 in crocs now.

oh man, that is disappointing. DS was barely at that mark our last trip. If he stood tall, he could hit the 40 inch mark. I was nervous a few of the rides he might not make it.
we are planning Oct next year and I am crossing everything that my barely 37 inch child has a huge growth spurt.
I feel your pain
I have been googling average heights of a 4.5 year old - FX both boys make it
My oldest was juuuust 37 inches for her 3rd birthday trip. 13 months later she was 41 inches and made everything I bet in 13 months he will be 40 inches!

I hear you. My dd is very short for her age. We lucked out last trip in that she jussst made 40 inches with princess shoes on. We book our fast passes on tues, and I should probably measure the kids to see where they are at. i think dd2 (3) is about 36 inches with shoes, dd1 (7) around 43-44 inches.
.... So crocs are the shoes that give the most extra height?
My kids have no difference when measured in crocs vs their tennis shoes. We've measured my youngest many times hoping she'd be tall Enough for mine train next month. (She's not)
