We are looking to replace our back doors on each side of the duplex. We want pre-hung, full glass and steel, and will pay for install. (I'd love to have wood like our old house, but these face west with no cover and will get destroyed by the sun.)
Any recommendations for suppliers?
We looked at Menards, but they all have this crappy plastic trim around the glass: (this image cracks me up) (we would get plain glass)
Thanks! It seems like all the exterior doors are going to have the ugly trim unless we go super high-end which we don't want to for this house. ;( I think we will have to live with it. I'm so used to spec'ing commercial doors for projects and haven't had this issue before. Here's a therma-tru door: (I didn't realize they were headquartered so close to my hometown!)
I'm betting we can fill and paint over those screw holes.
Try a local mill works place. Here in Pittsburgh we have 2 off the top of my head, I'm sure most cities have one or more.
You could also try box stores like HD, Lowes, Busy Beaver, 88 Lumber...
Thanks! Millworks won't have steel doors though, right? It seems like all the normal stores and suppliers have the ugly glass trim. Oh, well. I think it is likely something I'm stressing about now, but won't bug once it goes in.
We just got thermatru doors that were paintable, and the trim doesn't stick out at all.. Ours was the smooth star line, which is fiberglass. They also have a steel line, not sure if the paint ability of it tho. We used a local lumber yard that orders/distributes for thermatru. They even recommended local handymen to install.

You are my hero! I checked out the smooth star "flush glazed" and it is so much better! I'm going to make sure everyone is ok w/ a fiberglass door and then call to get pricing.

We considered thermatru, but ultimately decided on Masonite because our contractor got a better deal on those. We got fiberglass with a small window and it has plastic trim similar to what you posted. The trim came with plastic pieces to fill in the screw holes and once painted they blend in well. I'd guess thermatru doors are similar.

We'll have these in our house too when construction is complete. Holds up in Wisconsin weather well according to our builder.
