Can someone spell out how this works like I am 2 years old?
Do we all have to wait in the line even if most of us are too short to ride?
Do we need to ask for ride swap? Do we need to wait in the line all over again or can we wait to the side and swap a kid out after the ride is over?
On an semi related note in regards to fast passes you wouldn't fast pass all 4 people to the same ride would you if 2 were too short to ride? How does hay work with fast pass and rider swap?
Lastly I see people talking about getting 4 plus fast passss throughout the day

I would not FP the people too small to ride.
If you have a FP go to the FP entrance with those riding and the child too small to ride. Request a rider swap. You will get ticket good for at least a few days and three people. Bring that ticket back to the FP line when the next group wants to ride.

My understanding (and we aren't going for a few more weeks but I tried to make sure I got it before booking FP) is that you can use RS on the handful of rides with height restrictions and you're traveling with someone too small. I've seen on some boards that some CM will let you swap if you just have a kid who is too scared, but that's not a given. You book your FP on that ride, go to FP line WITH the small one and they'll give you a ticket that up to 3 people can come back and use later. You must have the little one with you to get the RS pass. For most of the rides, the people who will use the RS ticket do not have to have their own FP for it, but my understanding is that Mine Train often requires it. So in Epcot, I made FP for Test Track for DH and DD1 and for Soarin for me and DD2. Our plan is to then RS both of those rides so that we all get to ride them once, and DD1 and DD2 will each get to ride one of them twice (remember 3 people can return for the RS pass). For Mine Train, I did make all 4 of us FP reservations because I've seen multiple times that they will require all riders to have a FP. I figured worst case is that the kids can each ride it twice, once with me and once with DH.

If someone is going through the line the first time they need a FP. We were not required for the person staying with the non rider to have a FP at Mine Train.
you don't have to wait in line with the kids who are too small to ride. you just go up to the entrance- with the kid thats too small, so the cast member can see them. They'll give you a rider swap ticket thats good for 3 people, and it doesn't have to be used that day, either :-) so one of you can take the too-small rider and do something else while the other people ride.... then you use the ticket to switch off. As far as making more than 3 fast passes a day..... Once you use all 3 of your initial fast passes (either by riding the ride, OR by the fast pass time "expiring") you can go on your phone on the My disney experience app and make another fast pass ( it will show you what times and rides are still available for that day). There were a couple times where we checked in for our third fast pass, and while we were waiting to get on the ride, i got on my phone and booked another fast pass :-) You used to have to actually go to a kiosk in the park, but now its right from your phone-- SOOO great!!

I've had all our bands scanned at the FP point for RS at Mine Train even though we weren't all going on right away. That's the only ride its happened on, but I have read other reports of people having the same thing happen. So that's the only one I would NOT split on.

How tall are your kiddos? I'm confused about this part.

Sorry...I have 3 girls....DD3 is too little for almost all the height restricted rides. DD1 and DD2 will be able to ride everything, so we split our FP so they each go with one adult and the other takes DD someplace else while they ride.

Thanks! That makes sense now. I just have two boys, so I'm trying to figure out how I will handle all the rides DS1 can ride but DS2 can't.
