It's a whole day park for us. We try to get there as close to rope drop as possible and ride the safari first. The animals are most active early in the morning. We fast pass expedition Everest and kali river rapids usually. The finding nemo show is good, and so is the lion king show. The kids like meeting the characters dressed up in their safari outfits, that used to be at camp Minnie/mickey, but I think it might have moved (?). Dinoland USA is ok, but I do not enjoy the Dinosaur ride, it's too rough for me. lol. Food - flame tree BBQ is decent. Pizzafari is gross. I don't have any experience with Tusker House, but we did eat at Yak N Yeti once- it was ok but not amazing. When we have gone in the past, they closed around 6pm. We leave right before park closing and eat at a sit down dinner elsewhere- either at downtown Disney or one of the resorts (chef mickeys, ohana, etc).

AK has always been a half day park for us...usually because we get rained out, have rides break down, or everyone is just done for the day. I've actually never experienced Dinoland, so hoping to head there early next time.
I like having a PPO breakfast at Tusker House and getting right on the safari. Then we walk around, see FoTLK, ride EE, visit characters, and do KRR a few times. Even if we had fit in the Nemo show, Dinosaur, etc. last visit, we still would have been done around 2-3pm.

DH and I always use single rider in Everest and never have to wait very long. But our kids are too short.
The park is a full day park for us. My kids are at an age where they enjoy the shows, plus rafiki's planet watch (train ride and petting zoo) and the walking trails it all takes time. I will fully admit though we never make it to rope drop. Also- rivers of light (night time show) is rumored to start this fall.
We've eaten at yak and yeti, rainforest cafe and tusker house. AK doesn't have many food choices i love, but we are doing tusker house thia year for lunch because my kids wil enjoy the characters.

Both times we've gone we have gotten there at rope drop and left by 2:00. We go and do safari first thing, so no FP is needed. We've only eaten at Tusker house and have really enjoyed it. This last time we did a late breakfast (10:45am) and we were able to have both breakfast and lunch foods as it's right before the switch over.
DS and DH rode Dinosaur and loved it. I think DS was too short for Everest, but DH enjoyed it. Haven't tried the Kali rapids as I didn't want to end up soaked, lol. We've also done the Lion King show which we thought was great. Met Minnie & Mickey, and Balou and King Louie.
Both times we've felt we had seen enough and had a nice time by the afternoon even though we clearly haven't seen everything. It's a nice park, but not OMG love it for us. I think next time we plan on skipping it.
I like to do AK on my arrival day. We are usually at our resort by 1pm and grab a quick lunch and head over around 2pm.
I usually FP plus one show ( Festival or Nemo) Safari and Everest. My kiddo loooovveess the Boneyard, so he can waste an hour between that and multiple Triceretop Twirl ( aka Dino Dumbo)
I like to do pics with Minnie and Mickey there as well. I love the Safari outfits.
We usually stay until closing ( we haven't been since the night time stuff opened, last time we were there they closed at 7pm) and then head back to the resort for a quick dinner and early bed time to make RD the next morning.
I like this plan because we get to start right off in a park, but it's very low pressure. We see a show, ride a few things, see Minnie and Mickey and DS gets to go to the Boneyard and run off some of that traveling energy.

It was definitely a whole day park for us too. We got there at rope drop, did Its Tough to be a Bug, walked around, used our Safari Fast Pass, walked around and looked at the trails and exhibits by the Safari, went to Festival of the Lion King, had a character lunch at Tusker House, tried to get DS to ride Everest (he wouldn't, lol), went to the Finding Nemo show, went to Dino Land and rode the triceratops ride and the Primeval Whirl and then we left. That was almost a whole day and we missed A LOT of stuff.
Ak is also one of the reasons I am big fan of the park hopper. DS loooovveesss that playground so if we have a not quite as full day in another park ( ahem DHS) then I will bring him over there to play for an hour or so. Disney can be a lot of waiting and sitting for him so a HUGE area to burn off some steam is great mid week.

We always book breakfast at Tusker House, head right over to safari and then explore the rest afterwards. Husband rides Everest but he's the only one so we have fun waiting for him - he uses the single rider line so it tends to be fast.
We get a heavy snack in the early afternoon since our breakfast was so big (buffet). Then we head back to resort in late afternoon and chill by the pools for the rest of the day.

On our first trip we allotted a full day and stayed busy the whole time. For our last trip our AK day was also our departure day so we could only stay until about 2:00. During that time we saw Lion King, Finding Nemo, rode Dinosaur, Everest and the Safari and met Pocohontas, rafiki and Chip N Dale. Now that they have evening stuff we'll stay for a full day for our next trip. I want to have dinner at Boma so I'm trying to decide if I should do that as part of our AK day, or if I should do it on arrival day and save all time for the park.
