Taken from another board. Ironically I was reading this when I was approached by 3 academic advisors on campus. They were concerned about a student who was wanting to withdraw on the first day of classes. Turns out he experienced a hate incident on his way to his first class. Confronted and harrassed by a group of white males....this is a Chicano first year student. He's in a state of acute stress. They tried to get him to stay, and he had a panic attack in his class today, the same place this incident happened. That this is happening in 2016 pains my heart. I could only cry with him because I know his pain all to well. Trump has emboldened the hate in this country, and I'm just so tired.

"**** is committed to assuring that all people may exercise the constitutionally protected rights of free expression, speech, assembly and worship. Some acts of hate or bias may not violate law or policy and may, in fact, be protected expressions of speech. Protecting freedom of expression, including controversial speech, and sometimes even offensive or hurtful words, is vital to our commitment to teaching and learning."
I want to burn shit down 😡😡😡 Hate speech is protected? RAGE

Poor kid, I know college campuses can be full of people screaming bizarre crap, I hope other students emotions are taken into account. There isn't really any running from the stuff though. Trump isn't going anywhere for now.

I understand that schools want to be a place for free thinking and expression of various ideas, but they need to find a balance. You can have a difference of opinion without harrassing a specific individual. I get what the schools are trying to do, but they are just emboldening racist asshats.
