Made a lot of progress this weekend! Need to order a rug this week. Debating between solid pink shag rug or white shag. Here are some pics, ignore the wrapped chair lol.

Don't go white shag. My good friend got a white shah for her daughter and had to replace it before she was one since it was so gray in spots no matter what she did. It gets so dirty! I would got with a light gray to balance everything out! The rest of the room is so cute!!!
I like the idea of navy or navy & white (although I'm struggling w/the pattern because the stripes are so bold.)
This is my struggle as well. I don't want to compete with the stripes. We are doing a nautical theme, so anchors are good but a lot of the ones I find are indoor/outdoor rugs that are thin and course.

Oh, the site I linked had navy and white anchor rugs! Not sure on thickness, but take a look.

We have a white/gray rug in our bedroom and I lOVE it. Nursery will be closed off from pets and we don't wear shoes in our house. The white shag rug is only around $120 so I am not super worried if it only lasts a few years.
I love some of the navy anchor or knot rugs but a lot of them are indoor/outdoor and I am worried they are not soft.

I don't want to beat a dead horse but my friend that had to replace hers before a year has no pets, doesn't allow shoes in the house, and is a cleaning freak and still it had a bunch of spots. Babies are messy! Puke, spit up, milk, plus the stuff that comes out of their bottoms=mess!

Thanks but won't this be a common problem to any rug? If I go with a navy rug then i will still have stain issues as most of those things are white ish in color. Right? Or getting a lower height rug be better?

We have a grayish green shag rug in the nursery where my 2.5 yo daughter sleeps. Mess clean up is a bit tougher than lower pile rugs (which we have in the living room) but we have had no problems getting all the stains out with carpet cleaner and some blotting. The tough part with white shag is when it is slightly damp from the cleaning it attracts dust and dirt which makes it gray and is difficult to get out. Our gray hides it pretty well but with white is starts looking like its dark roots are showing for lack of a better term!
For the record I love our shag in the nursery although whenever you drop a small item it's a hunt to find it in the rug! But it is so soft and fun for the baby to play on!
I vote white. You can get a rug from rugsusa.com for 70-80% off so it would be less than $200. Even if you had to replace it in a few years, it wouldn't be that bad with it being so cheap. By then you may want to redo her room for a big girl room anyways. I've gotten 5 rugs from rugsusa.com and have been pleased with the quality. I have a shag rug in our living room that's light gray, it's a year old, and still holding up really well. I'm actually surprised how great it still looks.

Thanks all! I ordered a white shag rug that got really good reviews for nursery. Its cheap so I don't mind if it doesn't last long. Luckily my DH is an extreme cleaner so I am good there, lol.
Well if you find a good way to clean a white shag rug, let us all know! No shoes or pets in our nursery either, but a definite greying from where you walk over it to the crib from the door.
