I think that is one of the most expensive times to go. It seems late in the year to be planning for this year. I would start with checking room availability. I would want to get that booked prior to 60 days out so you can book FP.

That specific week is the busiest week of the year. I used to work there and they threatened to fire me when I had to take some time off that week for my brother's wedding. Honestly, I don't think it's worth it.
We are going Christmas week! Staying at a moderate with dining included, two adults and one three year old (plus one free one year old) we are paying $4300 for seven nights and five day park hoppers. I just did a search and a one week package starting on 12/26 starts at almost $2300. You can find someplace cheaper off site though.
I agree that it's late to plan for this year. Dining is probably already booked up! If you do decide to go, DONT LEAVE THE PARK. Prepare to be there before rope drop and don't leave until you're done for the day. They do hit their cap and won't let you back in.
I've been trying to decide whether or not to pull the trigger on a Christmas trip for my family. Dining is all gone, but there are spots at the resorts.
My hangup is ridiculous airfare prices - but that wouldn't be an issue for you.
My last Disney trip was the week before Christmas, and we flew out on Christmas Day. The crowds weren't too overwhelming then.

We went Dec 23-28 back in 2012. It was busy but IMO not that bad. We had dining reservations and never were closed out of a park. The staff seemed really ready for the crowds. I'd do it again (we're actually going at thanksgiving thurs-sun this year)
I have been for day trips that week since my ILs live near there, and it was way too crowded for me. Since you live in the state and can probably get there easily, I'd give him the tickets on your anniversary, but actually go in January.

Oh hey, I'm going 12/23-12/30 this year! What time did you guys get to the parks? We are not morning people so I'm debating whether or not we want to aim for rope drop or just try our best to be there by 9.

Hi! We had my 3 year old niece with us so we weren't in a huge rush. We had an ADR at crystal Palace at 830 Christmas morning and it was fine, we just went with the flow. We park hopped a couple days too.

We went that week in 2014.
If you can do rope drop, it's worth it. By about 1 p.m. we didn't want to be in the magic kingdom anymore, but we got a ton done in the early morning, and scheduled our fastpasses for 10, 11, and 12, and were able to get on all our must dos. Then we spent the afternoon/evenings either at another park or doing stuff at the resort.
I'd go Christmas week again.
I didn't find Hollywood Studios or Animal Kingdom that much worse than when we go in October or November. Epcot and especially MK were the ones that were nuts. Mainly MK.
