Do you have an emergency kit? Water, cash, some food, etc? That would probably help, to know that IF a quake would hit, you would be as prepared as possible.
But also keep in mind that the max risk right now is 1%. That means that there's a 99% chance that it won't happen! And the lower end of that "increased" risk puts you at 1/3000...so 2,999 out of 3,000 that it won't happen.
Because of the cluster of quakes, scientists estimate the likelihood of an earthquake of a magnitude 7.0 or higher increased to between 0.03 and 1 percent, according to the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services. That means the probability of a sizable earthquake on the southern San Andreas fault being triggered is between 1 in 3,000 and 1 in 100
A 1% chance isn't very great. Deep breaths happywife.
Remember the fault veers off into the desert. We won't get the worst of it here, although we'd obviously feel it if it's large enough.
My BIL said something to that effect but aren't we on the same fault line? Couldn't it hit us hard too? I am seriously trying to stop a panic attack over this.
Other than having your emergency kit put together, there's not a lot you can do unfortunately. Get some water, some canned food, gas up the cars, etc and just try not to think about it too much because there's only a 1% chance.
Either smoke more or less to help with the paranoia.
We put family dog down today so I smoked more than I normally do. Then I saw that article. I've always been terrified of earthquakes.
Sounds like you had a really bad day. Embrace your anxiety tonight and then tomorrow start rebuilding your emergency supplies. You'll feel like you're DOING something, kwim?
I think this is pretty awesome to get a warning. I would work on an emergency kit with water and food asap. I am jealous of the warning. Seattle is going to fall into the sound randomly one day.

I'm very sorry about your dog
The warning only increased the chances by 1 percent and the percentage is going down quickly already. I'm surprised they even issued a warning. It seems somewhat silly to me. We are always on the verge of an earthquake.
My work sent out a mass email with a letter from the USGS about the earthquake warning and then the person who was in charge added some "tips." Like stand in a doorway. NO. You're not supposed to stand in a doorway, so I had to email them the CDC earthquake tips where it specially states, "DO NOT STAND IN A DOORWAY."
Um, I learned about standing in a doorway from both Saved by the Bell AND Full House. If both of these 20-year-old shows are wrong, what am I to do?!?!
No, but seriously, OKC has become earthquake central and I've mananged to stay sitting in my bed during them all.

Um, is sender person new to the area from a no-quake place? Because otherwise, I'd be concerned he/ she is interested in torture &/or extremely vindictive😐 (mostly kidding, but keep your guard up!). Safe, calm vibes to all, guys!! (Maybe I gave a smirk, as was my intent..?)

not that I'm aware of. I know it's no ill intentions because it was sent to thousands of employees. Just misinformation. Unsafe misinformation.

Seriously, though, don't panic. There isn't anything you can do besides be prepared. I'm not too scared of earthquakes, I might just be blasé because we have so many out here. The 7.3 here in 2010 was the scariest one I've ever been through and we made it through that okay.
