I started Whole30 for the first time today.
My goal is to eliminate all of the sugar and junky carbs foods I've started eating and cut back on alcohol. I'm about 25 lbs overweight and would like to change my habits.
I like the idea of listening to your body vs writing down and weighing everything you eat.
Hi! I'm trying to decide if I'm going to start on Tuesday (day after Canadian thanksgiving) or wait and start November 1.
I did one in March 2015 (very successful) and tried a few after that (unsuccessful)
I need to curb the sugar cravings, and eliminate the foods that irritate my colitis and eczema. Because even though I know they aggravate, I still eat them and I need to have a clean plate again. I remember loving how I felt on my whole 30, and want to feel it again!
Favourite recipe: not really a recipe, but ground pork with spices and veggies for lunch, ground turkey with veggies and sweet potato for breakfast, pork chill for supper.
I decided to start yesterday Made sure there were lots of parts of Thanksgiving dinner that were compliant so that I had good leftovers to start with. Turkey, loads of different veggies, saved some jus not used in gravy, forgot to save the bones to make broth Here goes day 2!

It's still going pretty well here. It is day 15 for me, so I'm 1/2 way done. We grilled up a lot of veggies and some steak for lunches this week and I feel pretty good about the options I have in the house.
I have TOM this week, and have been craving chocolate so much. I am really glad we don't have any in the house, because I would have a hard time resisting. Wine is also tempting to me, but I know I can wait.
Totally understand. Maybe dates would be good - nice and sweet, and I think they're high in iron? I'm finished week 1. Waking up to Day 8 I did a lot of grocery shopping, meal planning and food prep this weekend to hopefully help make the week smoother. No headaches or strong cravings yet.

I recommend eating very sweet compliant foods (like dates or figs) with something high in fat and protein. Psychologically, eating those foods by themselves can be similar to eating candy or other treats. I believe that eating them in the context of other compliant foods is better in the long run.

I'm on day 2. I'm a soda addict. So yesterday I was miserable with headaches. Today is going better. I need more breakfast ideas besides eggs and meat. I don't eat seafood.
I had a rough day today. I was hungry most of the day despite eating proper amounts. I think it was due to: not having enough water and breaking one of the guidelines, sort of. I made a smoothie for breakfast (from oh she glows everyday) I didn't have very much of it, wasn't a huge fan, so I also had two small sausages.

tantek how is it going? What day are you on? I'm on day 25 and getting a little bored with the program. Still have followed all of the guidelines though.
Hi! Yesterday was day 15, two complete weeks in I haven't had bad sugar cravings, still just hungry sometimes in the afternoon so I grab an apple or something. I'm feeling awesome - there were loads of chips at work yesterday for a team building chip tasting thing, but I was able to gracefully say no I think that's my biggest takeaway so far; is the ability to say no again. My breakfasts this week are ground turkey with spices, kale, onions etc on top of these sweet potato cubes that I found on the whole30 Facebook site. Delicious! I feel like I've lost a significant amount of weight, just thinner and feel so much better.

This is my breakfast (but usually with beef) errrrrrry single day. It's so easy.
I need help with ideas: I get incredibly tired after lunch. Whether I walk or not, and this happened before Whole30 as well and am hoping for a food-based solution. Right now I chug water to try to keep my eyes open, or tea.
I think part of the problem is that I'm just sitting at my desk, with a full belly, and not very busy with work. Do I just need more sleep at night or should I add something to my lunch?

How much are you sleeping?
I know this isn't the rules to a tee, but you may want to. Insider splitting your lunch into two smaller meals and see how that goes.
I've been getting to bed around 10:30 and falling asleep around 11, then getting up at 5:30 or 5:45.
I worked from home today and found it very difficult to stay on track. At work, I eat what I bring and drink water and tea. Easy Peasy. I ended up snacking on dates and nuts. Whole30 approved foods, but I know they weren't necessary. I was feeling munchy. Ugh. Moving on! Eventually I left my laptop and went for a walk. Feeling much better now
whitemerlot still hanging in there? Few days left, right? How are you doing with Halloween candy all around? Plans for after?
I've lost my initial excitement but am still sticking to it. Spaghetti squash with beef sauce and green beans tonight. Looking to try some new recipes next week.

tantek I'm hanging in there. My last day is on Halloween. We have little kids, so we will have candy around. I have open bags in the house, but it doesn't bother me. I plan to get some really good quality dark chocolate for myself eventually.
I have liked the recipes that I've made on the whole 30 recipe Instagram much more than the ones in the book I had. I made a vegetable beef soup today from that Instagram that was posted on October 3, and it was very delicious. It made a nice big pot that will serve my family dinner again and several lunches.
I made the chicken chowder from the Whole 30 book, and didn't like it very much. It was disappointing. I'm over the coconut milk and very over almonds because I'm allergic to all other nuts.
I'm home full time with my 4 year old and I think this has helped me to break some pretty bad snacking habits. She is tiny and eats healthy foods, but eats often. I was eating too many snacks and not always healthy ones. I was also eating a sweet thing after every meal and to wake myself up either a sweet thing or a carb. My energy has been much more consistent with that pattern broken.
