Relax everyone, Eric has confirmed that Trump will be himself at the next debate. That worked pretty well for Hillary last time so I am okay with that.
I think we just witnessed a bit of psychological warfare. I think the HRC campaign is trying to goad Trump into turning on Pence. Kaine's insistence on asking Pence to defend Trump and Pence's failure to defend him in the slightest, along with him going completely off of Trump's Russia script, sets the perfect bait for Trump's next meltdown.
I like this theory.
I was telling H that I think Trump is going to go ballistic over the fact that Pence did better than him. All these commentators talking about how Trump needs to be like Pence is going to DRIVE HIM WILD.
So now I'm kind of buying into the theory that they intentionally threw it to let Pence outshine Trump.

And yeah I think Pence basically was out there for himself. Positioning himself for 2020. I think 2020 barring some unseen crazy shit is still going to find the R party figuring out what the fuck they are and Pence is one specific side of that. It's still a fractured situation. It's still him only appealing to a specific portion of the party so I don't know how successful he will ever be. He really is incredibly far right with the history to back that up.

I bet Pence thinks he's super-smart with that "broad-shouldered" bullshit. He gets to reference Carl Sandburg and the industrial Midwest working class, while pretending sexism is poetry.
Why don't they just cut off their freaking mics? I really wish people would answer the question instead of just speaking to what they prepared for. I wish they would have focused more on what they would do instead of trying to shift focus on the shortfalls of their opponent or the current administration.
Imagine if we could have a system whereby the mic goes mute if you a) don't answer the question or b) lie.
They'd have so many dead mic moments maybe they'd learn to put someone on the stage who could keep the mic on.

I had to take a break after the first 20-30 minutes because the kids came home, so I'll have to finish up in about an hour.
I'm only on page 17 of this thread, but damn you've all made me excited to finish watching this debate. I was getting worried there about FHTK. Sounds like he finally found his footing!
It's intermission here and I'm totally reading this thread to prepare myself for the remainder of the debate when I get home.
Delurking to post a theory that had me up all night. I keep wondering why so many Rs are backing in Trump and putting party before country. Is it possible that they want to get Trump elected and then let him do something outrageous within the first 6 months (because Trump), and then lead the charge to impeach him "for the good of the country". It allows them to look like champions and this is how we get President Pence, which is a much more palatable R for them. Please tell me this scenario isn't possible, right?
Oh, I absolutely think this.
I think ESF might have originally said, but I think Cruz was promised VP in this scenario which is why he endorsed.

It is entirely possible. It's not like the D's are going to fight impeaching him, I think their plan is either
A) Trump does let Pence run things and they KOKO B) Trump does something impeachable and they lead to remove him, getting President Pence
I think that's why they are going along with this, if Trump falls in line and lets Pence run the government as is speculated then they get their policies, if he gets too crazy they get the good PR of leading to get him removed. I think they are forgetting that he can do a lot of crazy stuff that isn't strictly impeachable.

No that wasn't my theory, but I do think it is possible that Cruz was offered something good. SCOTUS maybe.
But seeing that video that the Clinton campaign made with Pence denying Trump or him saying things followed by them actually saying those things? He achieved what he needed to achieve, which was showing everyone that Pence can't defend Trump and showing him lying about things they've said.
The debate itself isn't going to change any minds, but it gives the Clinton campaign the material it needs to continue shoring up support among Democrats, turning out voters, and convincing fence-sitters.

How pissed do you think Trump is right now with HRC tweeting that Pence won't defend him and other media sources are picking up on that too?
Trumps tweet this morning is something coming from him "The constant interruptions last night by Tim Kaine should not have been allowed. Mike Pence won big!"

Is there really a video?! I called that last night! I need a link.

OMG. He really is a fucking tool. I can't stop laughing.
