We're planning on WDW for April of 2018. Wondering about the best place to stay with two adults and 4 kids. Kids will be 10 and under. Thinking about Wilderness lodge villas or yacht club villas and trying to book through the DVC rental store. Any preference between the two? Are they difficult to get? Other suggestions?
The kids are definitely into pools, so that is a factor, but otherwise pretty open to ideas. Thanks!
My kids loved the treehouse villa. We had 7 people. It is a 3 bedroom one.
Did you have your own transportation? They seem so nice but so remote.
I liked the remoteness - it was quite and calm. And, no, we didn't have our own transportation. I didn't think it was a big deal to take the treehouse bus to the main bus. It was pretty easy. And all of the treehouses are right in the one area and everyone there seemed to get along and be really friendly. The kids loved the pool and the boat to disney springs right by the treehouse too.
I went in expecting the worst because so many people complained about the buses, but I really didn't think it was that big of a deal.
The ft wilderness cabins are an option, family suites at all star music or art Of animation or renting/booking at 2 bedroom villa via dvc. A lot of this is going to come down to budget.

Yeah, we've stayed at POR twice and we always go by the tree houses on the boat. We are always like, maybe someday!
Ha! A POR stay and boat ride was how we found them too and said the same thing! You should really do it!
I don't know about the places you've listed, but for the others who listed AoA and ft wilderness, AoA would work, but a ftW cabin would be less than ideal. Ft wilderness had a double bed and twin bunk beds in one room. Then there's a pull out bed in the living room. And only 1 bathroom. We did it with 5, but it was cramped and awkward. AoA is a good choice. Master bedroom for adults, a Murphy bed type thing at the dining table which is a good mattress for 2, and a decent sofa bed for 2 kids- and most important, a 2nd bathroom.
We loved the cabins at Fort Wilderness and I hated the AOA family suites. The cabins were very spacious and well appointed. I loved that they weren't hotelish, and there was a lot of wildlife roaming around which was cool. It's our new go-to place to stay.

H always wants to stay there... but I am like NOOOOOO. I guess I stayed in one when I was little and there was a HUGE bug on the ceiling and I freaked out and the cast members gave me a HUGE stuffed Mickey because I cried for EVER.
Anyways.... I mean they look cool, and maybe if I ever went with a big group.... but I think I am still traumatized. LOL
I think it will depend on if you plan to go back to room or not with those ages. 6 people in 2bd at BLT would be no problem. Plus the 2bds have the 3rd full bath in the living room. The 4 kids in the 2 doubles, the parents in the "master."
We used both the BLT and Contemporary pools/splash pads/water slides.
